I remember back at TAFE, I went for a drink in Newtown with this chick in my class one afternoon, then we went across to the old cemetery. She said she liked it there because it was peaceful but I couldn't stop thinking about how an 11 year old girl was found dead there in 1946, in a case that was never solved.

A bit of an odd one but does anyone know any good places in say Parramatta. I don't venture much outside of the inner west or the CBD but will be out in Parra this week.

I asssume you're talkng about Camperdown Cemetary, St Stephen's Church. It's an historical cemetary and a great spot for picnics and get togethers with friends and families. The memorial for the lives lost in the Dunbar ship wreck is there - 1850s, loss of over 120 lives, the remains are buried there.

I used to play backyard cricket there with friends in the 80s. If you hit a tree or tombstone on the full, you were considered caught out.

Not sure what it is like now, but the church pastor was great in encouraging activity on the grounds. Before they tidied it up, the cemetary was overgrown wiith weeds and spider webs and very impressive at night. It really became a focus point for weekend get togethers after they got the gardeners in.

Newtown has some fantastic bars. There is one from around the corner where my brother used to live (kinda above Zanzibar). It was down the laneway Zanzibar is on and diagonally opposite the huge park in Newtown (Camperdown Memorial Park). Can't remember the name for the life of me, but it was a great place for weekend drinks in the sun.

The Norfolk in Surry Hills/Redfern is currently my favourite pub in the city, had my birthday dinner there two weeks ago on three dollar taco night. Good food, cheap piss as far as city prices go and they have Cherry Coke/Dr Pepper/Grape Fanta behind the bar.

I also love The Flinders Hotel, The Beresford, Kings X Hotel(since it has been refurbished), Kinselas, Hunky Dory Social Club, Shady Pines, Low 302, Pocket, The Courthouse in Newtown, Beach Road Hotel, World Bar, Hugos, Goldfish(imo best cocktails in Sydney) and Dr. Pongs.

The Blue Cattle Dog at St Clair is alright for a 350g steak and chips for 10 bucks.

Plus the atmosphere ain't that bad.

Also they mix my bourbon and coke quite nicely.

That may very well be the one. It's right near King St, old fashioned stone church with big trees and old gravestones in it.
