It's the previous rumour (repeated in the above article) that the ARLC wants a fourth free to air game on Saturday and the dramatic drop in ratings between early and late Friday games that leads me to suggest we may actually lose the late Friday night game from FTA. And with other suggestions that there's a push for a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, I'm guessing we'll see one primetime Friday night game (possibly from a choice of two games played), one primetime Saturday night game (from a choice of two or three), and back to back Sunday games leading into the news. Or if not a Sunday doubleheader then possible a Saturday night doubleheader with both games live (6.30pm and 8.30pm) like in the first week of the finals.

1 Billion is fine, we aren't going to be pissing $$$$$ away like the AFL are with their 2 bastard step children they love so dearly, and the fact league squads are not as big as aussie rules squads and the money will be more than enough to start competing with the fumbletards.

DETAILS about the NRL's television deal are harder to come by than penalties in golden point.

But this week we heard some solid figures from a source close to the negotiations.

The good oil says the five-year contract is likely to be worth $1.15 billion, with $900 million in cash and $250 million in contra.

We've also been told the model will follow AFL's lead with all matches broadcast live on Fox Sports. There is no word, however, on which consortium of free-to-air networks have won out.

What's the bet that "source close to the negotiations" just happens to be the Fox Sports negotiating team - breaking their confidentiality agreement by leaking to their News Ltd cousins for a few quick bucks selling papers. Merkins.

If that’s just the FTA and PayTV $$ then it’s already bigger than the AFL deal.

Their 1.2B deal included internet and naming rights, which that article doesn’t mention.

No matter what, it’s going to be a huuuuge day for Aus RL and Aus sport in general when it is finally announced.

Exactly.

Throw those in and bump up the total package to a cool 1.26 billion

I wonder which they would introduce first - Perth or Brisbane?

Advantage with Brisbane would be its an easier sell, and would be giving the free to air network what they want sooner - more content in Brisbane.

Perth would offer a unique timeslot right up though.

Brisbane 2015, Perth 2016?

i'd bring Perth in first, 2015. Give them the nod in September this year or whenever the new tv rights gets announced so they get just over 2 years to get ready for their inaugural season.

What a kick-arse comp we would have with Perth and a 2nd Brisbane team involved.

The sad state of affairs in the English Super League will ensure that we have enough quality players to fill these extra two teams. And a second Brisbane team will be in a prime position to pick the top qualty out of the Q Cup.

Anything close to the AFL deal in terms of $'s, along with 4 (live?) FTA game is a massive win for the code.
Just to add to this;
I think the most important thing is to get live coverage nationwide and second most important is to have each team broadcast into their own market every week.
This is how you grow the sport.

All Storm games shown live into Melbourne, all West Coast games into Perth, all NQ games into NQ, all Newie games into Newcastle, etc, etc. We're lucky Sky's coverage is so great wrt the Warriors.

I'm a bit on the fence with this one, particularly when you refer to say Newie as you don't want to compete with the gate. NQ definately because of the size of the region, Melbourne and WA so that we can grow the game.

I'd go Perth 2015, Brisbane 2016. That way, it gives a bit more gap for the Titans to better establish themselves before bringing in another team in SE QLD.
