With talk of a thursday night for 4 games, wouldn't it be better for a sunday twilight game,in the earlier warm autumn months. The crowds for a thursday night would be meh, with school the next day after a 7pm start.

Haven't heard a thing about the code naming sponsorship, currently held by Telstra and due for renewal.Perhaps tied in with the internet rights which means screwable by the rights holder.:(

You need to think about this statement a little bit more.

First 18 rounds fixed, remaining 8 rolling and FTA get first choice.

1 Game on Friday, Saturday and Sunday should be locked in each weekend. With every Monday locked in as well.

The other games should go on rolling fixture. We have enough "rivalry" and "big" games that can be played no matter where teams are on the ladder but will still draw/rate.

This give us the best of both worlds.

I have contemplated my navel on the matter.:D
If you mean school the next day for sunday twilight against school the next day after a thursday night, big difference.Well if my youngsters were anything to go by.
One would rather get stuck into booze on a sunday night ,rather than a thursday night.Called it the weekend factor.

Agreed. I was thinking that we should organise for our main blockbusters to be scheduled for the first 18 rounds with the top of the table matches for the remaining 8 rounds.

Lol, don't think that really cuts it mate. But do tell, what's the difference between Thursday nights and Sunday nights in regards to school the next day?

I'm a bigger fan of Sunday night matches over Thursdays for the ratings and it gives people the full day to prepare for the game unlike a Thursday.

Doubt it. That would give other networks a easy target to break the first and last rights.

Plus the NRL have stated they want to keep the negotiations behind closed doors and I'd imagine other networks would honour that.

The great thing is no matter what they decide, we're likely to get a great deal that we're very happy with instead of roling over and taking it in the ass from Nein and Murdoch Inc as we did last time.

Psychological;-),it could be argued thats my reasoning FWIW ,the kids think they are having an extended weekend.
Anycase it is not 7pm on sundays but say a 5pm start latest.Whereas weekdays(thursday) would necessitate a later 7pm start for all of Julia's working people to get there and or get home and drag the kids along.

I just believe from my experience as a big daddy that sunday twilights is better than thurdays nights. Then again it gets down to the kids in question.I can only base it on my experience.

Kids have their homework out of the way or should by sunday arvo, they may not feel in the mood having to do homework after school, then attend a game on a thursday night.Monday night attendances tend to reinforce that view ,as to kids in attendance.
Agree with your view as to sunday ratings.

the other networks will know the 9 bid so there is no reason to keep it a secret

9 may want to big note themselves if they're that confident

i wonder if clubs have been told of it though given the signings made in the last week?

like why would a player sign this week when the cap may not be known till after the TV deal?

In fairness he did say Sunday twilight.

6pm kick off on a Sunday is easier to do than a 7:30pm kick off on a Thursday.

You haven't been at work all day, traffic should be better and you can be in bed by 8:30-9pm as opposed to 10-10:30pm

I dunno, my gut feeling is that we'll end up with who we have now with a few minor modifications. I just can't see 9 letting it go, they'll be f**ked without it.

I hope I'm wrong though, I'd love to see 10/Fox win or even 7/10/Fox.

f**k 9.

Some of those AFL fans on the Roar are really starting to get obsessed. For the record -

It’s getting down to negotiating the finer details now, and all the best to the NRL.
I would like to take this opportunity to detail my long-standing predictions:
1. The NRL’s Australian TV rights in cash terms will come to $850 million.
2. Ch 7/10 will NOT bid $1.2 billion.
3. A tripling of the current annualised $83.3 million per annum will NOT be achieved.

1. Previously he never mentioned 'cash' when saying $850 million, that was his total deal value.

2. Maybe. It needs to tie into the mobile/online rights and whether they point in a joint bid that covers it and onsell.
3. For TV, maybe not. But what the f**k does annualised per annum mean?

Does 7/10 have to beat the 9/Fox conponent of the bid by 20% or just the 9 component?

from page 3 of the April 30 FIN

There is a confidential clause in Nine’s contract that effectively prevents it from submitting a low-ball bid by extinguishing the “last” right if a competing free-to-air bid comes in at a premium of more than 20 per cent. No such clause exists for Fox Sports.

so Fox can low-ball in their first offer and will still maintain last rights option
