My point was of a time that the ref's didn't turn a blind eye in the same manner as now. I miss the more constructive/enterprising ways that halves helped their side to win scrums.

1.World Sevens
2. First Grade games at North Sydney,Lidcombe,Redfern,Henson etc instead of sterile genetic grounds (ie Telstra)
3.Channel 10 State Bank Big game
4.Saturday Afternoon Football on ABC TV
5.Monday night football
6. Midweek cup competition.
7. Kangaroo Tours to England/France playing the club sides as well as the tests. And the tours by GB playing the club sides here (Still remember Parramatta knocking over the touring GB side @ Parramatta :D)

i dont think that will ever be illegal. the drinking culture in australia is far too strong.

It's actually illegal these days...there you go.

um yes i knew that. i was just saying how much the attitude towards smoking has changed in such a short period of time.

What do I miss?

Forwards with mud and dust on their jumpers after 20 minutes - not like the pristine Ken dolls that represent our game today.

Forwards that work their clakker off as a pack - not just the odd blokes like Hindy.

Small halves that can step tired forwards.

Tries that are not the result of a kick (see above post)

Referees who make decisions re tries and sendoffs.

Jerseys that a kid can draw during a Maths test.

used to love having players come on off the bench wearing numbers in the 40s and 50s...what was the deal with that?

The main thing I would love to see back is the midweek cup. That was great.

Raking the ball at the play the ball would have to be number 2.

wat did u mean monday night games are back? so we will see a game on channel 9 on monday nights now? which game got moved?

would love to see the 1 man rake rule removed, ball security goes out the window these days. would be great to see the ref have some more balls, and make the calls and send people off.

would also love to see refs let fights go, eveyrone is scared to fight now. oboiuvlsy none of that back of the head swings, but some of that two front rowers going hard at each other one hand grabbing jersy and the other smashing each other in the head. gold.....dribble

would also like to see video ref powers gone. can only look at the put down, nothing else. even if the player is like 10000m off side, only put down. i think due to the vid refs, refs are becoming more lazy and incompenent.... thats just me (orgin 3 2006)

The jumper numbering system used to be, 1-13 !st. Grade, 14-26 Res. Grade and 27-39 3rd. Grade*. All reserves were numbered from 40 onwards, starting with fresh reserves for reserve grade, reserves for 3rd Grade*, and then those coming on as replacements in 1st.Grade. My last jumper at Newtown was 47. Yes, I got dropped.:D

* signifies 3rd.Grade / u/23's / Jersey Flegg.

Well, I'm only 21 (going on 22) so my input into this thread is a little limited. I personally loved it when the number 9's were still real rakes - I have fond memories of watching clever ones steal the ball from the ruck, and I loved watching real scrums.

On a purely personal level - fireworks at Broncos night games! I love the new Suncorp Stadium a LOT, but the restrictions around it make it a sterile place to be at times. Many fun memories of hundreds of mascots going crazy at ANZ Stadium (like all the Keno balls and Coke bottles!) while fireworks went off and good rock music blared. Actually got the crowd pumped!
