Some absolutely brilliant places to see, some pristine beaches if you know where to look. The people are friendly and everything is cheap as chips.

How can you not be interested in Asia?

History and culture are what draw me to a place. Unfortunately, much of Asia's history has been bulldozed or torn down by geniused wars/cultural revolutions.

Have u seen the average age of the people on said boat tour ?

I have. What's your point?

I'm not interested in Contiki Tours or boozing it up. I'm not interested in mingling with people on the tour.

All I want to do is book a room on a boat with a scenic view and relax as it takes me somewhere.

I'm not a beach person.

Don't care about how friendly people are - when I go on holiday, I don't go to mingle.

And I could get cheap things from South America just as easily, being able to speak Spanish and having family and friends over there.

Asia is a brilliant little continent, but I'm not interested in going there.

I can see what Butch is getting at...

Those cruises are usually just chock full of oldies. Great for a casual conversation here and there but the boat would be an absolute snooze fest after 8pm.

If you aren't interested in mingling then it's not an issue.

If you're not interested in just seeing Sydney, Melbourne, or the QLD coast - Australia is a f**king nightmare for travel.

Well that's it - I'm not a sociable person.

I'd like to book a place, sit on the balcony and just relax.

I suppose another way to do it (but with less views) is to hire a house boat. We did that once and it was cool.

That's what I've been told.

I went to Cairns about six years ago and loved it. I asked around regarding air fares and hotel rates - it blew my mind how difficult and expensive it can be to get there.

I won't be going to anywhere in Australia, then.

Seriously, though - for a reclusive, unsociable, unlovable hermit such as myself, a boat tour sounds splendid.

I thought about a cruise, but I went on a cruise once, and the staff on board would hound you to join in on their planned activities. Wasn't much fun for me.

You really need to take advantage of telemarketers in Aus. Mum and dad and my sister and cousin went to the gold coast for 9 nights for 500, which between them is a good price. It's just the 10 hour drive to get there that's annoying.

That's very reasonable!

I had to pay my own way for my old job - they had some stupid conference for which I had to pay my own way there (but, hey - they shouted us the hotel room for a night!) and I paid through the nose for it each way.

Nah, I get it. I'm often completely over being around people and just want my alone time.

I mean, I have mates and all, and I love them dearly - but I find I can relax easier when I'm by myself.

And then in comes my sister with her, "Get out of your shell!" bullcrap and I just go further into my shell.

It's not that I dislike people - it's that I am so awkward and weird around people that I stress myself out trying to be "normal".

Meh.

Just be yourself. If people don't like it, find some people to hang out with who do.

You sound like me. Instead of going into my shell, I drink  works for the first few, then I'm wasted and an idiot.

I get going and chilling though. I went to the us, a couple days were spent chilling in the hotel room eating delivered food, drinking Budweiser and watching TV.
