I've been following this thread for awhile now and it took me a while to catch up with the flurry of activity. To quote the silver haired one...wow....just wow... This is potentially just fantastic news.

Can I get one of the pm's too please Doc.

For all of us not getting PMed by Doc, I think we should start a random speculation thread. Al Jazeera I reckon, starting a Pay TV Network, they already have World News on SBS and the general Arabic news on TVS.

I would just like to let everyone know that I currently have a hard on of epic proportions since reading the above article.

Do it channel 10, you know you want to!!!!!!!!!!!! And in HD please!!!

The day 9 loses RL I will f**king be happier than a pig in shit, the merkins have treated our game with utter contempt for 20 years now, watching them go to shit would be the sweetest revenge for our game
Could not agree more, and Fatty might be out of a job,win/win.

Notice as soon as News ltd is out of the equation,a new i.C with high profile people running the show, the interest seems to have grown in securing rugby league.

ch9 mgt team, and the financiers backing them must be buying up loads of Panadol and Aspros,as the headaches will become a common occurance.

As Dirty Harry would say ch10 go ahead, make my day.
And as Jack Gibson would say to ch9,their limitations are limitless.

Geez it feels good.I have developed a spring in my step, and that is not a gun in my pocket :D.

Then doc has something about ch7. Oh pleeeasse !!!!

Why does everyone seem to think Fox will just acquiesce? Their entire model is based on sports subscriptions, of which NRL contributes more than the AFL. Does anyone seriously think they are going to jeopardize their entire future because of Ten? f**king Ten? If Fox don't end up with at least 4 games it'll come as a big surprise.

I think it wouldn't be great business to be off the screens of the two biggest FTA network and the biggest pay-tv network. NRL may be able to give Ten/One a massive lift, but Ten is perennially underachieving network, that frankly the sport shouldn't be entirely tied to.

That said, there's no way Ten can afford all 8 games. Simple as that in the end. Ten taking a 2-4 games is fine, but all of them? I'm questioning their ability to afford it. Stories like that may inflate the price, but its hard to believe its veracity.

I agree totally, plus an important point to note is the source of today's story ( DT ) - not exactly highly regarded in this forum. There will be plenty of these types of stories as the various networks determine their strategy. As expected, it does sound promising for the NRL with multiple bids likely to result in a top class deal - both financially & in the way it's implemented.

They might be able to afford it if they on-sell some games to the likes of Fox or the other FTA networks. But even if they do sell some games to Fox the beauty of it is that Fox will probably get less games than now, the least good games per round and in the least good time slots. So that's why they could be in shit.

juro: They will match the market price, I don't think there's any fear of that. Ten will not/can not outbid Fox if it came to that. Fox would crush them. Again, we're talking about a network whose survival depends on live sport. To think they will just sit idle is nonsense - one only has to look at what they have done with the AFL to see what their intention is.

All it depends on is how many games Fox want. They currently hold what? 5 right (including MNF)? That would be the minimum they would look for again.

That article really just seems to highlight that there is competition amongst the FTA networks for Friday Night, Sunday afternoon matches. I imagine just like 7 and 9, Ten would be looking to get 2-3 games.

Not sure I agree. FTA numbers wil increase but might be shared. Saturday afternoon and SUnday Night look very real.

A Channel 10/Fox Partnership might be interesting given the parties involved .......

Well if Fox don't want to acquiesce, they'll just have to up the ante...

This.

And the pricks had better start treating the game with a bit more respect especially considering how many NRL games are annually in their top 100 programmes of the year. There's been sweet f**k-all ads for this season's Rugby League yet every ad break seems to have a fumbleball ad.

I guess if they pay more, they push it more so I'd like to see them pay plenty.

Whatever it looks like, that's the ideal solution. My only real point is that people rubbishing Fox don't seem to realize just how important RL is for them. Unlike FTA which live of advertising for their ever changing content, Fox does it through 2 things only really - NRL and AFL.

On the flipside they would probably say they are advertising AFL because the awareness isn't as high as NRL. They know that NRL rates through the roof, and has 74 odd of the 100 highest rated programs. After all thats what their push with 8 live afl games was all about.

I read an article about the ratings for Revenge on 7 this week. 2 million people tuned in. But then in the comments section, a lot of people were saying they wouldn't bother watching again, because it was easier to download rather than wait for episodes to arrive in Australia. The same could be said about virtually any other US series.

Goes to show the value of live sports. No delay means no leakage of viewers who are too impatient!
