Well that is good news, Leckie news is false.
Im kind of flabbergasted. I always expected them to get a billion but to get one and a quarter is just nuts.
On top of that they got rid of BH+G and will be played live in primetime on Fridays, live saturday night and sundays, every game multichannelled all over NSW and QLD on 7mate, and they have a dedicated Fox Footy channel.
So it seems like they have got a massive unexpected increase AND got absolutely everything they wanted, free, live and national coverage.
This changes everything for us. We need to seriously re-evaluate what is a reasonable deal for the NRL now.
WTF?
We get more FTA games of boggerball in NSW now than RL, who cares if it's live or delayed.
Could you ever see AFL states having more FTA RL games each week than their code?
No way, they'd burn down the TV stations, so why should we put up with it.
If we want to maximise our deal, we MUST expand in PERTH and BRISBANE. Our next expansion after that needs to be looking at Adelaide and Wellington.
We must improve our national footprint, particularily in the OzTam cities. We can then justify pushing for better national coverage and bigger dollars.
To expand in Gosford is a seriously BAD idea for the future health of the game.
This isn't about "bringing back the Bears" or nostalgia. This is about maintaining market share and survival and prosperity of the game as a whole
7 has 4 live games, Fox has 5 exclusive games AND those 4 aswell. That's where most of the growth comes from. I hope we offer it like that.on the face of it, fatman demetriou has earnt the coin he's on and more with this deal.
but there has to be some devil in the detail.
How anyone can justify expanding in Gosford following this deal is beyond me.
BS. If it was Perth and Adelaide, sure. But Brisbane has it's team, if we're going to expand in 2 foreign markets, sure, go for it. But if 1 team will be a heartland team the Bears are next in line.My post here was too important to be burried in this thread:
We must expand in important big markets to improve revenue - That means PERTH, ADELAIDE, BRISBANE, WELLINGTON/CHRISTCHURCH.
All talk of Central Queensland, Central Coast, PNG must stop.
Oh please. The alternate to the Bears is Brisbane 2. Perth will be in no matter what. If the 2nd slot was between the CC and Adelaide for example, you'd have a point. As long as it's between another nuffy queensland team and the Bears. Bears win.

Eyeballs on the Central coast and North Sydney are just as valuable as eyeballs in Brisbane.
exacly
WA and second Brisbane team MUST come in

Good to see which side of the line you stand on El.
The next expansion will be a watershed moment for the game:
Perth is a must. No matter what.
expand in Central Coast - conceed big money and national presence forever to the AFL, concentrate on NSW and Qld markets, which will slowly but surely dwindle over time.
expand in Brisbane - make a concerted effort to improve our presence in our second biggest market, and lay the platform to maximise revenue for the game, and further national expansion.
You know what's ironic? If we do keep the status quo in terms of timeslots in the next deal (which isn't unlikely) there will be more live AFL on FTA in NSW and QLD than NRL. Which is simply ridiculous if you think about it.
.
There is certainly belief amongst NRL club chairmen that they do not want Gallop to do the deal.
