IMO Perth and Adelaide would be the right choice. With every Melbourne/Perth/Adelaide game shown live in their states on FTA. Both teams should be from new states for the sake of the tv rights deal. If team must be from a heartland state, it will be the Bears.

A game at suncorp every week does a few things:

1. Lets EVERY team play in Brisbane in a year (ask BNE Roosters fans) which is a disgrace it can;t happen now.
2. Makes crowds bigger and look better on TV, adding to the worth & perception of the game (look at the AFL).
3. Gives RL sponsors opportunities outside the Broncos.
4. Gives and FNF alternative to the Broncos, networks have been heard in the media saying they want another metro Brisbane team to telecast.

I don't think Adelaide is needed right now. We will need to pay for the Storm in the coming years plus the Reds. Having a strong base in Brisbane and the true expansion of Perth will set us up. Adelaide given the population and hatred towards RL will not give enough to the game as another SEQLD team will now or even in the mid-long term.

I'd be happy with any two of Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane II, Wellington.

The question is wether we can afford backing up two new teams in AFL states.

Adelaide has no grass roots push, and would have to be top down - an expensive prospect. Wellington isn't ready yet either.

That leaves improving our position in Brisbane and Perth. Expanding in Central Coast simply because better locations aren't ready is actually worse than not expanding at all.

The AFL have had more FTA footy in the northern states than NRL for years now.

News LTD part-owning our game has f**ked our code up completely, from a coverage perspective and monetary perspective.
They had for ages but until now 1 or 2 of those was Storm style midnight games. Now it's 4 LIVE games. We need that kind of coverage on fta asap.

If we get a billion, there will be enough to support Adelaide. Look at GC, and even more so GWS. The things you can do when you have enough money.

The extra money that would come from tv with having a team in every capital would be worth Adelaide. Perth is a certainty. Adelaide should be there as well.

Too many around here are getting spooked because of the size of the AFL deal.

There is no need to expand until the 3rd or 4th year of NRL's next deal.

Provide a strong financial footing for the existing clubs with the increased new deal, and thoughts of expanding into regional areas is a recipe for capping your growth.

Expansion in 2015/16 with a couple of new clubs in major cities is the smart way to go.

So you want the first 3-4 years of this contract to go with just 8 games. Having a 9th game to sell is critical.

If we only have 8 and get something like 800m it would put the NRL at a massive disadvantage. The cap is already to low, the grant to clubs is to low. And if the AFL gets hundreds of millions of dollars more than the NRL they will just flood NSW and qld with marketing and grass roots campaigns.

They're already talking about tacking the cream of the crop of 15 and 16 year olds in NSW every year and paying them to convert to AFL. If we only get 800 we'll be powerless to stop it.

We need a 9th game from 2013, it is the only way we'll get a billion, and we need a billion to keep up.

Seriously, all the petty bullshit has to stop within the game and the IC needs to be finalized ASAP.

But they've still had better FTA coverage in Sydney than NRL had for a while now. Just as many live games and more games overall.

News LTD want people on the IC who will ensure they don't have to pay up big for TV rights yet again.

That's true. And if we do keep the status quo in our next deal (god forbid) there will be 4 times as much live AFL than NRL in rugby league heartland.

There needs to be at least 3 (preferably 4) live games on FTA inthe next contract, any less will be embarassing.
