Cant afford $15 a week but can afford broadband internet love to know how that works out.

Deadset anyone on here without foxtel and claiming to be a league fan is kidding themselves.

How anyone could prefer Free To Advertise(FTA) Tv coverage over Pay TV is quite simply beyond me.

Bunch of f**king gimps in this thread and nothing else.

You've just brought a tear to Rupert's eye.

That's what he wanted right from the word go.

A true believer.

bullsh*t!!

I admit yeah Fox Sports coverage is good but I think it's a f**kin' rort that you have to pay extra for the channel I'd want. I'd only want the Fox Sports Channels and Fox 8 for the wrestling. THAT'S IT! I don't give a bugger about Sci-Fi or Home Shopping.

TV rights are the AFL's main source of revenue. Current arrangements expire next year and the next deal is tipped to bring in more than $1 billion a year.

Is it just me or do Victorian journalist increase the expected price every day? I could swear only a few months ago they were saying it could be worth close to $1 billion for a 5 year deal. Now it's over a billion a year??:lol:

Thats about 5 million per game

That's how they make their money. They force customers to pay for crap they don't want to get the stuff they do. It's like going to a store to buy a shirt and they make you pay for a dress just so you can get your shirt.

You're an idiot.

I don't want News having my money
It's a rip off
broadband internet has uses far wider than pay TV does
I can watch it at the pub

I really don't care who gets it. I just want them to pick the best deal that will bring the most benefits to the code. With approximately $1 billion dollars coming into our coffers, we should be able to secure our long term future with investments in infrastructure and financial assets. That's what I would be using around 60% of it for. I'd use 20% of it for junior rugby league and 35%-40% of it in financial assets such as shares, bonds, foreign markets and currency, property, futures, options - the lot. We need to generate income outside of pokies, merchandise, sponsorship, crowds and memberships from a diverse number of means.

The less we have to rely on outside means the better off this game will be. Look what happened with the pokie tax. It nearly killed us. The Roosters last year? Huge dent in their financial means because one sponsor dumped them. We need to be looking almost purely long term with this TV deal in my opinion. The new TV deal in 6 or 7 years time can be used to reinvest in the stuff we missed with the rest of it going back into long term assets.

It would be outrageous if we undersell the product again. The game needs to get what its worth and make sure its shown into all markets live or at least at a decent hour.

Did anyone see Harold Mitchell on the Offsiders yesterday? Old Harold fessed up to creating the $1b figure for the AFL.

Don't forget other income that we currently miss out on such as this $12mill a year AFL get which we don;t:

compared to:

Don't sum it up like that. It's just painful. The worst bit is the NRL isn't ashamed enough to not call it a "victory".

Yeah I saw that. They were very carefull to point out that AFL will get more. Still the figures they put up were positive for league.

AFL - $1 billion
NRL - $850m - $1 billion

Jeeze that Packer stuff about getting rid of Onehd isn't looking good. Does sound like a way of protecting pay tv.

I heard that. That's a big improvement to early this year. Last time they had old Harold on, he said Rugby League wouldn't get an upgrade.

Channel 10 is to start up a new channel soon (11). Getting rid of One HD shouldn't make much difference. I wonder what Channel 7 thinks about the speculation of Sky News broadcasting on Channel 10. Considering they are a part owner of Sky News?

On Saturday, 2SM interviewed a bloke on who is a media buyer. I didn’t catch his name, but he was also on Zorbas show yesterday. He was expected the NRL to get a major increase with the next TV deal,
