What is most likely to happen is a live FTA doubleheader Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 6pm. Then the "9th" game (should expansion happen) would be on 6:30pm Sunday night on Fox.

Article on The Age website about the AFL broadcast deal (can't post links). They're looking good for $1bn now.

Foxtel will pay a fortune for the right to broadcast every game live as they're trying to increase their subscription rate in VIC, WA and SA.

I hope to god the FTA coverage is grown in our rights. I would love to see the loss of NRL subscribers offset the gains of the AFL to then f**k Foxtel over!

Deadset they have had their own channel, and exclusive games for years, just going by their "memberships" for clubs that are consistently on FOX you would expect a bigger AFL based audience in the ratings.

Foxtel have been taking a punt on the AFL for years and have very little to show for it.

Read it again. 7's bid is not including advertising or market money, & 9 have not yet submitted there final bid -due today - (a counter offer).

Still, $900m plus a bit of contra advertising doesn't equal $1b. To get the "$1b":

$500m pay TV for every game live, 4 simulacast with Free-to-air
$400m Channel 7/10 or 9
$50m ish contra (value of "freebies" not actual cash) advertising
$50m from Telstra for internet rights

So a cash component of $950m at best. Note Caroline, this isn't $1b you rancid skank.

Dont underestimate how much the AFL will need every last real cent. Even more-so now both new teams look ferked.
