i bought a metal key-tag dragon of that type in '86. given how saints played in '86 i should have stuck it up john flemming's clapper.

I have a good fad - painting the team logos on the field. They should bring that back, these days its only done in rep games and the Grand Final.

They should also bring back the fully painted in goal area on GF day.

He used to be the neutral ref when the Aussies played GB or the kiwis. Being French he more than likely refereed some of the Kangaroos matches in France, but I'm not 100% sure if he was the one who used the cane the Aussies to make the match competetive on the scoreboard.

Electrical tape around the head for the props. It has it's merits I guess but why did guys like 'dish head' Dowling and Mark Hohn bother protecting their ears?

I was wondering only yesterday why a center like Simon Mannering would need his head taped....he even purposely avoided adhering the ears.

They were great and could still be worthwhile today in the right circumstances. Easy way to make ground and conserve energy in the right circumstances.

No it would not be worthwhile. The game is geared towards attacking, hence larger score lines in this modern age. Why the hell would you give away possession so easily to "conserve energy"?.

Making ground is easy these days, the 10 metre rule has taken care of that. You'll never see another kicking dual EVER!

Just watched the '95 Grand Final, saw Matty Ridge do one of the place kicks for touch off a penalty. It's actually a good idea provided you get the goalkickers to do it. Speaking of that - My mind boggles at why we used Halligan to kick for touch when we had Lamb and Polly there, even Hetherington :-S
