Its interesting the auroa that Paris can have. Once had a date with guy who explained to me how Paris was the most beautiful and stylish city in all of Europe.
When I asked when he had visited, he replied that he had never been there.

For sheer beauty, Lake Louise in Canada is wonderful.

Somewhere I would find hard to return to due to destruction of what may have once been pretty. Madagascar.
Paris is ok, not sure why some people have such strong opinions on it though. The traffic is quite bad I guess. Beautiful architecture though.... Eiffel tower is spectacular but Louvre is overrated.

For Europe I really love Amsterdam but it was a little dirty last time I was there. Rome is cool but I felt like I was getting fleeced everywhere. The Italians prey on tourists a bit...

London is probably my favourite global city, just due to the sheer convenience of everything. Brilliant public transport, off licenses on every corner with cheap as piss beer. Decent food and lots to see and do. Feels like a second home.

The missus and I did Rome in January, was somehow like 20° and sunny. We walked into the Colosseum all by ourselves and saw maybe 10 people the whole 3 hours we were there. f**king incredible I'll never forget it

This 100%.
My first ever trip overseas was as a 31yr old in 2012 to London for 10 or so days by myself. In the lead-up and on the flights over, I wasn't anxious, but there was a sceric of concern about being in a completely new place where I had no idea where I was or how I was going to get around and knowing absolutely no-one. After landing at Heathrow and catching the tube to Kings Cross St.Pancras, I exited the tube station to walk to my backpackers and immediately I felt weirdly at home. It just felt so inexplicably comfortable. I've never forgotten that. I felt the same 4yrs later when I returned for another few days as part of a wider 3 month European trip. No other city in the world that I have visited, English-speaking or not, have I felt that feeling.

Switzerland is absolutely stunning. If it wasn't so dammed expensive, I could very happily live there. I'd probably have to learn both French and German, however, as I'd split my time up between Montreux and Lauterbrunnen.
Try Slovenia instead. Same beauty for about a third of the price

According to people who have travelled far more than me.

France - Overrated and smells like urine in Paris.

Scotland - Underrated, shitty weather most times but a very cool place to travel to.
Been to both and Paris was 50/50 for me - hated it the first time, stank of piss and had arrogant rude arseholes everywhere. Begrudgingly agreed to go a second time about 10 years later and had the opposite experience and loved it.
Scotland only went to Edinburgh but had one of the best nights out I’ve ever had. Locals couldn’t have been nicer and even had one give me a ride home and refused petrol money as I was drunkenly stumbling back to the hotel.

Peak Hill, NSW. Jayzuss! The place may as well not exist. Moree, NSW - possibly equal billing, Many small Australian country towns.
New Plymouth, NZ. Cold, wet, smelly, boring.
Had a couple of work placements in New Plymouth, beautiful scenery with the mount back drop, however the beaches are rarely warm enough to swim in, and I don’t think I’ve ever been so cold in my life in winter. The locals will tell you often it’s the “best place in the world” however most haven’t traveled nor have their parents who all know each other.
Was quite a depressing place as an outsider

Edinburgh is probably my favourite city I've visited in Europe. Really enjoyed the people in the north of England too. Leeds was great fun as a younger bloke

Ever been to Invercargill? That place is a hole

I remember driving past the road signs to Bluff, guess it was a smart move to not follow them and keep heading towards the west coast.
I only went there as a slight detour so I’d been to the very top of the north island and very bottom of the South, don’t think the place had been updated or maintained since about 1950

That's what invercargill felt like, can remember it was the middle of the day when we drove through the place and I swear I didn't see a single person anywhere walking along or another car on the road 😅

In Italy, go further north to Bologna or east to Abruzzo.

An Italian once told me that Rome is not the real Italy. Its like saying New York is representative of America, London is England or Sydney is Australia. And where there are too many tourists, there'll be pushy hawkers trying to sell stuff. This is amplified by unemployment.

I never experienced any hawkers in Rome, but my several days there were 43°+ each day, so I guess they were elsewhere trying to keep cool..!

Noumea is absolute whole.

Also it might be a bit controversial but of all of Europe I found Italy as a whole the most disappointing. Don’t get me wrong still enjoyed myself but not somewhere I’m crawling to get back to.

I know what you mean mate, absolutely beautiful country - it's expensive true, that's the only downside.

I went there when I was 25 and loved it. We stayed at the bottom of a valley in the Jungfrau region, and the grass was as green you get. The thing is even though it was Summer, there was still snow in the alps, and as it was melting, the water would fall all over into the valley, and there were watersfalls all around us. These waterfalls culminated into a large body of water which would run right down through the middle of the valley. In order to get from where we were staying to the other side, you would cross and old wooden bridge (which was structurally sound), but just how preserved and old fashioned everything was, and naturally beautiful, was something I would never forget.

Also... I would love to do this one day:
