To get an idea of just how far this club has slipped since its' formative years, I'd highly recommend anybody read Neil Jameson's excellent 1992 book 'Our Town, Our Team- the story of the Newcastle Knights'. Keep in mind that when book was published, the Knights greatest season achievement was reaching the 5th place play-off against Balmain in 1990. The only silverware to our name was the Nissan Sevens trophy the following year. But even so, reading the book gives you a distinct insight into the culture that Allan McMahon fostered in the team, in conjunction with a board who were adequate for the general standard of the time and understood the importance of winning over the local community with a resourceful football team who'd generally give the home town fans reason to be proud, even if they lost. Reading that book back in 2000 made me so proud to be a supporter of this club. Reading it now would just make me want to go and open up a bottle, put on a DVD of the '97 Grand Final and drown my sorrows for what's been lost...

Glad I have such an active life and a busy schedule these days because when I was a teenager, watching the Knights was often the highlight of my weekend...
