I'll pose the question back...............which recent (6-7 yrs) outside signings have killed it at Newcastle and made their name here?

You can't change the point half way through an argument. You originally stated that players come to Newcastle and get worse. I'd argue that just about every player you have named so far came to the club and played to their potential. Pay peanuts and you'll get monkeys.

indeed.. the lack of performance from out external signings over the past 6-7 years is not exactly a testament to our poor facilities.. but rather our poor recruitment.

I think our team will look more like:

1. Kids
2. Vuna
3. McManus
4. Wes Naquima
5. Uate

6. Mullen
7. Walsh

8. Cross
9. Buderus
10. Sargent
11. Simpson
12. Paterson
13. Houston

Dont konw about the subs but thats a quality team if we can keep them on the paddock I say.

Even Craig Smith who gave his all, was a shadow of his former self with us.

Garbage - he was tops for the 2 years he was here, sure he wasn't in career best form but 'good' form for him is pretty bloody good for any prop!

IMO Smith was awsome in 2005, 2006 he started solid but fell away a fair bit towards the end.

But his 2005 would have been close to career best form?

Please the first year he was a tryer had some great games for an "Old Guy" but was no were near a top class prop. The second year he was here he looked old broken down and tired towards the end of the game he'd hit the line and be shoved back.

I know we all loved him for the efforts he put in for us, he gave a 110% but a great prop he was not.

Totally agree with Nuffy in this instance.

My comment still rings true, players who join this club rarely if ever reach the potential expected of them or even achieve the form they showed at their previous club/s. Most go backwards.

I would argue that only BK bucked the trend, and even then Manly got better service (relatively) than we did.

We have a sh*t record in that regard, and thats my point. We seem incapable of getting the best out of imports and thats a worry seeing for the first time ever we've signed a heap of them.

Compare that with the record of the Storm for arguments sake!

I'll agree that Smith gave Yeoman service but to suggest he was in anything like career best form is laughable.

Are you kidding? He, along with Clint Newton, deserved test selection for their form in 2005. Craig Smith was definately in the top 5 props in the comp ON FORM that year, can't remember him having a bad game, buy of the year in my opinion. Please correct me if i'm wrong.

I agree with the second year part though, dropped off big time in 06.

You are kidding yourself BB he performed well in a sh!thouse team. If you had of put him in the Bulldogs, Bronco's or Storm he wouldnt have been a dot on the radar with them. Would you really have compared his efforts to those of Webcke, O'Meley, Asotosi ect????

If you do, then I pity you.

You miss my point, do we sign players to play FG or PL? Hession is still in PL and with all our injury woes, hasn't looked like getting a game as a specialist centre.

Which one of the players that I named:

Has been a revelation in FG'
Been better than at their last club,
Played more games for us than their last clubs,

I'll take it a step further, are / were any of those players automatic choices in FG at the Knights?

Can we honestly say that any of these blokes are better footballers at Newcastle currently than they were anywhere else?

I'll come back to Reynoldson............a very respectable player at the Storm thats done zero at the Knights.

I'll pose the question back...............which recent (6-7 yrs) outside signings have killed it at Newcastle and made their name here?

Well, since the Knights first year in 1988, who have the Knights signed that made a name?

Besides Ben Kennedy, the only others I can think of in 20 yrs is Mark Sargent, Michael Hagan (both Bulldogs), John Schuster (All Blacks) and Ashley "Flash" Gordon. Coach wise, it'd have to be Malcolm Reilly. Our defense was best under his reign and since then, we've just leaked in far too many points per season (which got out of hand under the Michael Hagan reign).
