The NRL and the State Government have given Rugby League fans every chance to attend one of the all-time classic Telstra Premiership Finals after today ensuring that tickets to the match will gain fans free travel on public transport.
Following an early surge in ticket sales all major event public transport routes will also swing into action for an Eels versus Bulldogs showdown that has captured the imagination of Sydney sports fans.
The Major Event Status means that all public transport costs to and from Telstra Stadium have been incorporated into the ticket price following negotiations between the NRL and the State Government.
NRL Chief Executive, Mr David Gallop, thanked the State Transport Minister, Mr John Watkins, and Telstra Stadium for their efforts on behalf of fans.
"It's great to see the State Government working with us in a way that allows us to invest in making it easier for fans to get to the match," Mr Gallop said today.
"This is a game that showcases one of Sydney's greatest footballing rivalries and it is important that fans are given every chance to get there on Saturday night.
"The fact that they can now use their match tickets to access both special event and regular public transport routes at no extra cost is real incentive to get along to a great game."
Telstra Stadium CEO Ken Edwards congratulated the State Government and the NRL for moving quickly to provide the Major Event public transport services for the Eels-Bulldogs semi-final.
"The semi-final pairing was only confirmed on Sunday night and to plan and activate such a major public transport undertaking in just a few days is a great achievement," Mr Edwards said.
"This will make a huge difference for thousands of footy fans, who can get to and from Telstra Stadium safely and quickly on public transport and avoid traffic and car parking hassles.
"The Integrated Ticketing model with transport included in every match ticket is one of the great legacies of the Olympics and a very successful ingredient of Telstra Stadium's major events.
"This decision will go a long way to making Saturday night's game one of the biggest events on the Sydney sporting calendar this year."
