Tigers Leaving Concord?

Sounds like they are more considering it according to this Fairfax item - Mayer seems keen on the idea.

Wests Tigers are considering hopping into bed with a rival code as they search for a new training base to replace Concord Oval. The WestConnex project has all but spelt the end of the joint-venture club's time at its current facility and officials are exploring potential new locations they can call home. One possibility is shifting to TG Millner Field, where they would be cohabitants with the Eastwood rugby club. Other options include the ELS Hall Park premises in Ryde, a site in Meadowbank or a location within the Homebush Bay precinct. The Tigers have already increased their presence in the area by shifting home games from Allianz Stadium to ANZ Stadium. Tigers CEO Grant Mayer believes the WestConnex project means the club has ''two years max'' before the club is likely to be shifted from Concord. ''It's going to be massive, it's going underneath Parramatta Road, so it will be a big bonus for this area because there will be a whole bunch of urban regeneration,'' Mayer said. ''But to build it they will need to build space to park trucks, so I reckon we could be on the drawing board to be moved out of here. There's no way you could have trucks parked here and have a football team.'' If an appropriate site can be found, Mayer said it was possible to find a new home in just 12 months. ''[Concord Oval] is aged and when you have inferior training facilities you have to pay more for players to come to the club,'' Mayer said. ''This is an exciting opportunity for us.''

It is good Ryde Council is involved. If Campbelltown Council wants a slice of the action it is going to have to produce a competitive package. Well done Mayer!

I would have thought this was the perfect time to move HQ to the south west region of Sydney.

Although I have a sneaky suspicion they want to stay closer to the heart of Sydney as it is seen as a more desirable location to entice players and of course most of the movers and shakers in the club live closer to town

Yes mate. They seem hell bent on leaking western based juniors to Penrith to cater for the minority that live closer to town... The next board election cant come soon enough...

The only people that go to Cambo are those that live there....theres nothing there that other areas dont have. Its isolated and out of the way....a long way from everywhere.

The inner west is our base....it always was, except for a brief period of a dozen years

This isn't about the bird or the cat, this is about where the training ground should be located. The heartland of both is the inner west, so that's where they should train.

Liverpool is central to both and would ensure we don't let the biggest breeding ground go to rival codes and other western based teams. Common sense but I don't think that will catch on around here...

Mate, I agree. Any players living in the inner west are going against the traffic flow - no excuses.

Yeah, and there will be only a broke Balmain Tigers - go f**k yourself.
A change of board in 2 years is more likely to see Balmain go the way of the Steelers if anything - no money, unable to meet their jv commitments. I hope it doesn't happen that way, but I wouldn't miss cutting loose some of the imbecile fan base Wests inherited in the merger..

And how the hell is the tiger the 2nd most marketable mascot on the planet - what planet, f**king Mars.

Biggest sporting club in Australia - hmmm, that's it; has a magpie as it's mascot and emblem.
