Smith praises enthusiastic Knights
Newcastle coach Brian Smith says last night's upset NRL win over Parramatta was the team's best performance of the season.
The Knights lead 20-0 at half-time and went on to score six tries to two in a 34-10 thumping of the Eels at Parramatta Stadium.
The clash was the first time Smith and Eels coach Michael Hagan had matched up since swapping roles.
Eels full-back Luke Burt suffered a major knee injury in the loss.
Smith says he is happy with the way the team is playing.
"Even though we've lost two games we should have won in the last two weeks," he said.
"In the last six weeks or so there's just been a positive feel about our team.
"Our boys are going out and doing their job at an enthusiastic beat."
Hagan says he was concerned his side would perform badly after he saw some early warning signs in training.
"A couple of little signs had me a bit concerned but you'd like to think you're not seeing things," he said.
"It appeared from the word go we were a yard off of the pace the whole game.
"The fears were sort of confirmed in the way we played."
