Wow... I'm shocked. Cant believe Johns would say that. What a twat.
I don't know if thats enough to walk out on SOO though. But given that NSW has had so many Aboriginal players, not to mention Newcastle, thats just such a stupid thing for Johns to say.

Look I dont support what Joey MAY have said but if he has been saying this around Tahu since Tahu was 17 then why hasnt Tahu had the dummy spit before this ??? Why did it have to be on the eve of one of the biggest games in SOO when so many of his mates are counting on him??
Given the fact that Joey was a team mate at Newcastle and is on the training staff at the Eels, it isnt like they had never met each other before.

I definately think there is much more to this, there just has to be....

hell no why would T defend his number 1 oposing player? Whats next ? Hayne leaves camp cause Steve Roach says something about Slater?

so are you're effectively saying that if Joey had directed the comment about Sam Thaiday he wouldn't of mind???

OMFG!!!!! #-o

reported on channel 9 news..

T walked because he heard Joey use the term black merkin when talking about Inglis, T indicated that he's heard Joey use it since he was 18 and he can no longer look him in the eye...

Reporter: Weidler

If this is true then where does it leave Bellamy with Inglis? It'd be hard to coach a bloke at club level if you've let people talk about him that way. Its kind of like Paul Langmack as Rabbitohs coach and I think the player was Owen Craigie. Except Bellamy didn't say it. But still, Inglis and any Aboriginal player would be p**ed off.

Yeah I think there has to be more to this than that. Its insulting and Tahu could complain and I don't think Bellamy would tolerate that kind of crap. As much as I don't like the lying, cheating Storm etc I have to admit that Bellamy is a very smart and mature coach. So I doubt he'd allow that kind of banter especially since it could lead to stuff like this. I think this place Bellamy in tricky situation though?!

My thoughts are that since Tahu came back he's been angrier and more tense than when he was last in League. Its a bit of a short fuse. So this isn't good. Nor for NSW, Parra or Tahu.

Being White Anglo Saxon, I don't pretend to put myself in a minority's shoes so to be able to categorically state that what Tahu did was "soft" or "precious", as I don't know what it feels like to be called that.

If anything, good on him for taking a stance in my opinion.

Putting himself in a position to cop so much flak (which has begun) by taking the action he took, arguably shows far more ticker than playing a State of Origin match.

He would also have foregone his match fee no doubt - 5 or 6K isn't it?

I don't blame the man for taking a stance against something he is passionate about.

It is actions like this that will probably be the most productive in changing the "ugly" culture of Rugby Leauge, that sees it ending up on the front of National Newspapers for the wrong reasons.

The issue was clearly racial so let's cut the speculation about supposedly made "other comments".

Tahu made it very clear that this has been happening for a long time.
Johns was also very contrite and seemed quite nervous when interviewed on Channel 9 news.
I'd suggest that a lot more may come of this, even though the joint statement released is trying to hose it down.
The media will make sure of it.

At first I thought that Tahu was being a bit precious, but for him to react like this, surely he may have reached his breaking point, and for that to have happened, this must have been an ongoing issue.

if Johns is running the water in game 2 he best keep a eye out GI might blindside for that comment.
NSWRL should sack him instantly if that is really what he said.

Charity boxing Tahu v Johns, bring it on!

Being Indian (so also kind of black) I'm not sure if the allaged insult is enough to warrant walking away from SOO. My thoughts are that if anybody is racist to me at work that I won't be harrassed or bullied out of a job or any other lucrative opportunity. I'd just find another way to deal with the problem. So I would react, but not in a way that diminished my own welfare or opportunities.

But despite the odd flare up here and there actual face-to-face racism is pretty rare in Australia. Its more the stuff you don't see. At any rate, Johns and Tahu have known each other for about a decade. If Tahu has heard this stuff before then why not just tell Johns to shut it and as Fathead said, why haven't they had a major blowout earlier.

And though there's been a few incidents I don't think league has a racist culture. This is a sport that has had long ties to the Indigenous and Pacific Islander communities. That said, I wouldn't underestimate the stupidity, as opposed to malice, of the Johns brothers.

The difference is that Indians, like Chinese, aren't at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder like aboriginals and islanders are.

It's an ethnic group's position in society that makes racism so offensive.

Johns has walked now too.
The question is why did johns have to walk if what being reported is true? he should have been sacked well before Tahu needed to walk.
NSWRL= Soft.

I agree with that. But if somebody had called Inglis a black merkin in front of me I'd have been offended too and I would've felt sorry for Inglis. I think its denigrating an immutable quality, such as his colour, thats offensive. Its the implied suggestion that being black is something bad. But I don't think that Johns meant it that way or understood all the implications.

I still agree with what others have said that there's more to this matter. Maybe the racism that Tahu encountered in rugby union was a lot more subtle and insidious. I remember Amos Roberts or Nathan Blacklock saying something like that when they came back from rugby. Its a double whammy because they're looking down on you because of your race and your class and its very hard to know how to deal with that. Its possible that Tahu encountered something like that. Tahu seems angrier these days and maybe the Johns comment just lit the fuse.

The above mentioned organisation is an absolute disgrace. Everything they touch turns to sh*t. Why was Johns selected as assistant coach in the first place????

If Joey said what he did and you find the whole team having a laugh, it's kinda hard to really want to play for that team when your principles differ from the rest of the team. Pure speculation at best on my part though.
