Its ok but.....they simply don't get it

I mean I don't mind the idea of celebrating 30 years, great to bring back memories of Tina Turner but shouldve had more of recent footage and less political stuff.

And btw they really screwed up the bit with the Trbojevic brothers. They put the year 1996 and have the brothers play backyard footy but Tom was born in October that year??

Do these morons actually research anything?
Exactly what I was thinking! Also Cam Smith, was 14 in 1997, but the kid they used looks like he's about 8! It is baffling, they spend all that money yet get these things wrong.

Also, the ad, I think for the anyone under 25, (which should be the target audience they are most trying to reach) won't do much for them. It's only those of us that lived through the 90s that get moved by it and it's all because of the song and the nostalgia that comes with it.

In parts it’s great

It’s frustrating for me because I am someone who voted yes for gay marriage, support Latrell against the trolls, the Indigenous players right not to sing the anthem and I love the women’s game.

I literally get political agendas in virtually every movie, tv show, ad, song, social media etc put out these days. Let sport be the one place where I can escape this and just enjoy it for what it is, and this is from someone who agrees with all the messages! I’m actually surprised they didn’t have a refugee kid on a boat holding a footy, must be on the cutting room floor.

I mean FFS the woman’s game is actually awesome, yet all we get is two chicks kissing. Do the marketers realise they actually play? If you want that at least make it Jess Sergis and Isabelle Kelly going at it.

The majority of it is absolutely cringeworthy but hey it’s the NRL promo, they only every use it for 2 weeks
What a load of unadulterated bullshit.

If you're all for the things you say in your preamble, then I don't understand why it matters. All the things shown are part of our game today in one way or another. Leaving them all out purposely would be just as (if not more) controversial.

The overarching and dominant theme of the ad is rugby league, the highlight for me was very clearly the classic moments over the 30 years, the recreation of the celebration of those moments in pubs and homes - that's the gold in this ad.

As for "all we get is two chicks kissing"... did you miss the 5+ seconds of Ali Brigginshaw walking along the street interlocked with commentary and footage of her scoring a try? Or the girl at the end running out with her ball because she was inspired by the current generation?

If you want to "enjoy it for what it is" you know by now this *is* what it is.

They got Trbojevic brothers wrong granted, but you've got Cam Smith wrong there - the timestamp is clearly 1990.

First impressions: bizzare ad that focuses more on politics than rugby league.

Pretty apathetic anyway as it's unlikely I'll ever see this thing again. Ad blocker on chrome is wonderful tool and I seldom watch tv. Still, I think they've missed the mark big time.

I’d rather a commercial that focused on the all the off feild drama.
Imagine 3 minutes of recaps of classic off field shit.
Dank
Carney mouth piss
Greg bird glassing
Nude dogs players
Rabbitohs players arrested
Footage of Barba chucking rocks at his missus.
Etc etc

maybe a slogan like
Buckle up
It’s back!

Getting back to the Trbojevic bit, it wouldve made more sense if they had Menzies or the Stewart brothers footage. Jake and Tom obviously don't remember Super League. In fact they shouldve left Super League out of it.

That Ad is pretty disappointing, far to many RL highlights and not enough virtue Signaling.

Come on guys it’s 2020 get with the programme we need to become far more diverse and progressive!!!!

For the most part it was a good ad. 10 full seconds out of two minutes of Latrell just standing there with the soundtrack muted was far too political. The other political moments in the ad were on screen for a millisecond and gone, and didn't interrupt the flow of the ad.

To show the indigenous inclusiveness of the league, why not have that 10 seconds dedicated to indigenous players past and present scoring tries and playing the game! I'm sure a shot of Blake Ferguson doing a back flip could have made it's way in.

Have no problem with any of the rest of it, except they missed one of their crowning achievements of last season, the no fault sit down policy. The ad needed a shot of JDB sitting silently in a courtroom in his saints jersey or something.

You're right, my bad! It is actually a clock winding back. In the still of the ad, it shows 1997, but then when it plays, it rolls it back to 1990.

They could start it with a Matt Lodge voice over - "This is the night you die"

How is it more political than anything else? The ad is 2 minutes long. Lattrell get 15 seconds tops. The women's game gets 4 seconds and the gays get 2 seconds. So about 10% of the ad touches on political agendas.

And why not? Indigenous rights and Rugby League are allies. Beetson was the first Indigenous captain of any Australian team. It's not about the anthem at all.

The girls kissing is 1 second and Macklemore is 1 second. They have been big recent issues in the game. The NRL supported marriage equality and shunned Folau.

There's way more interesting stuff in the ad that is being missed. Souths marching, Super League, great grand final moments ... it's about the first honest ad the NRL has ever done, the only thing they didn't include was a list of atrocities.

This!

Including stuff like the BHP march in Newcastle to give the Knights' premiership context - that's the real highlight of the ad.
