I’m a typical bloke from NQ and there’s one piece of vision on that ad that really disturbs me. I and many others from up that way don’t have a problem with their lifestyle choice one bit but I’m sick of it being rammed down my throat constantly in ads like this. Myself and many others from that part of the world don’t choose to be that way inclined but we have no problem with other people being Wests Tigers fans, but do you have to have the vision of ‘that’ f**king flick pass on the ad?????.......

If you are going to spend money on using a theme sung by Tina Turner I expect to hear Tina Turner, not Tina Turner and some unknown child who takes over singing at one point. I mean why should I care who this girl is? I've never seen her before so why should I want to listen to her singing part of a song when I expect Tina Turner for the whole song? This just smacks of amateurism in my opinion.

For the most part it was a good ad. 10 full seconds out of two minutes of Latrell just standing there with the soundtrack muted was far too political. The other political moments in the ad were on screen for a millisecond and gone, and didn't interrupt the flow of the ad.

To show the indigenous inclusiveness of the league, why not have that 10 seconds dedicated to indigenous players past and present scoring tries and playing the game! I'm sure a shot of Blake Ferguson doing a back flip could have made it's way in.

Have no problem with any of the rest of it, except they missed one of their crowning achievements of last season, the no fault sit down policy. The ad needed a shot of JDB sitting silently in a courtroom in his saints jersey or something.

Must have just ignored the part with Preston Campbell then...

yeah that part was annoying! Just when you were waiting for the chorus to drop... this girl's voice comes in instead!

What a load of unadulterated bullshit.

If you're all for the things you say in your preamble, then I don't understand why it matters. All the things shown are part of our game today in one way or another. Leaving them all out purposely would be just as (if not more) controversial.

The overarching and dominant theme of the ad is rugby league, the highlight for me was very clearly the classic moments over the 30 years, the recreation of the celebration of those moments in pubs and homes - that's the gold in this ad.

As for "all we get is two chicks kissing"... did you miss the 5+ seconds of Ali Brigginshaw walking along the street interlocked with commentary and footage of her scoring a try? Or the girl at the end running out with her ball because she was inspired by the current generation?

If you want to "enjoy it for what it is" you know by now this *is* what it is.

Way to miss the point. I have simply said I dont want politics in sport. These days you get preached to everywhere, I want sport to be the one place I dont get it. Something that I'm passionate about is animal shelters. Ive volunteered at no kill shelters before and still donate reguarly. I also disgaree with any form of breeders. However if the NRL took a stance for this and included in their ad I would roll my eyes and say its stupid.

If at the end of the year the NRL allow Folau back in and then run him as the face of 2021 with a slogan 'we support free speach' will you be ok with it?

Sport has always involved politics though, this is nothing new.

Hell Rugby League was created because of politics/social issues

I don't want politics in sport is such bullshit. Politics has always been in sport and always will be.

The ad isn't even f**king preachy, it features a few Indigenous moments, flashes up the Origin kiss, Macklemore. Those things make up less than a tenth of the entire video but you focus in on them because it's an easy bash.

Your comparisons to animal shelters is ridiculous. Indigenous, womens and sexuality issues are all very relevant to the game because all three are part of the culture of the playing group we currently have. Ignoring that would be arguably worse. Featuring (not preaching) is just being representative of the game.

And that last question is just absurd.

Probably not. I mean, I would hope they would be able to spell.

As for the 'I don't want politics in sport'. Politics goes through all facets in life and sport has had a major role in the progressive attitude towards human rights, etc. To claim otherwise would be absolutely absurd.

Not to mention, the add is capturing what is great about Rugby League and the storied history of the game in the last 30 years. The game has a long history of promoting indigenous culture and players - why is it now that it's an issue? The game is promoting the women's game and inclusivity of the game - why is that such an issue?

Honestly, if someone sees a 2 second clip of two women kissing and decides that they don't want to follow the sport - good. We don't need idiots like that supporting the game.

You shouldn't opinion shame. Perhaps the NRL should spread awareness of this in next year's promo.

Have always been part of sport? Thats fine, a very minor part, but how often are they used as the main portal of advertsing? Ive told you twice now why I dont like it and you're continuing to tell me that its for other reasons. You're probably someone who enjoys saving the world by arguing politics on twitter, if thats what gets you off then its no surprise you enjoy the add. The fact that you wont answer the last question shows that you're happy with them being political, as long as the politics are of your beliefs.

Not sure where sexuality issues have been a major part of rugby league history? Hell I remember Mitch Moses calling an opposition player a 'f*%king f#aggot' and copping a 2 match suspension, the same as Tom Burgess got for throwing a waterbottle. If the NRL were so serious about getting behind this surely they would have been harsher.

You know what else is a part of the game? Allowing violent offenders against women like Matt Lodge, Fonua-Blake, Musgrove, Ferguson back into the game. Maybe next ad should redemption stories of these guys.

.

You are literally complaining about a minor part of an advert.

Sport has always been a mechanism for progressive change throughout history (equality, harmony, social development), in fact it is at the core of the fundamentals of olympism in the Olympic Charter.
