Titanic bid for PNG to coast in - Titans to be sold to PNG Consortium?

Remember a couple of years ago when Searle was talked up as the God of RL administrators and his brilliant IC vision proved it. A couple of years down the track and the club is broke and the IC still hasn't happened. The GC can be sustainable but the way they have gone about things has set them up for massive problems.

And as for nonsense about the GC problems affecting a Brisbane team coming from North Sydney fans, it's like saying Cronulla are broke so that proves there should be no more teams in NSW.

I desperately hope PNG does buy an NRL club and I wouldn't even care if they ship every single game up there. If people here are too narrow-minded not to give them their own team when they have every ingredient to make a go of it, this is what will happen.

Having said all that I agree it's probably all bullshit beaten up by the liars at the Telerag.

This, the GC is very viable. Searle has massively over capitalised with the "Centre of Excellence", and the club is struggling because of it. Looks like he is looking to sell part ownership off to clear the debt.

Not surprised at some of the crap from usual suspects like Loudstrat.

Also true. Although some of the problems Sydney clubs have is due to over crowding (They are competing for exposure, sponsors and fans with each other and other sports). The Titans is simply a result of spending way more money than they had on a sparkling new whiz bang facility.

Red&blackbear was going on about sponsors in Queensland, but Gold Coasts problems have nothing to do with sponsors - Western Corridor has signed two million $ sponsors, as have the Bombers bid. They just haven't released details because of the commerical agreement and securing a licence. Even the CQ bid has a very strong corporate backing.

Having said all that I agree it's probably all bullshit beaten up by the liars at the Telerag.
Also true.

Putting two and two together doesn't make 5 - Titans are looking for capital investors

PNG bid is looking at ways to bring NRL games to Port Moresby, or strengthen its bid which is currently unlikely to succeed with strong competition.

They may be talking about some sort of arangement, but the article jumps to some huge conclusions.

EDIT: the way its worded I get the feeling the PNG mob might be talking to other clubs like Cronulla as well.

This just proves what we already know; the Gold Coast is a black hole for sports.

The NRL has tried multiple times and looks like failing again, the AFL will fail once they get sick of giving them handouts and soccer is failing

No, I think its a lesson in not wasting huge amounts of money on unnecissary projects.

I wonder how the Bulldogs would have gone if the Liverpool casino/stadium development went ahead and ran into financial problems.

At least with the Sharks development some of the risk is mitigated by the project being run by a developer who will pay out the Sharks an initial figure.

The Centre of Excellence is a good idea, but only if you can afford it.

When they came in Searle promised so much from the Titans but he's delivered jack sh*t.

They never should of been admitted in the first place.

Cut them.

Has there ever been anything successful sporting wise happen on the Gold Coast?
Has there been anything successful happen on the Gold Coast period? I mean other than a thriving drug trade.
The real issue this article highlights for the Titans is the exorbitant rent they pay to Stadiums QLD to play at Skilled Park. How long would any of the Sydney clubs survive if they had to pay $300,000 rent per game?

This is one of the first problems the commission must take care of.

Shouldn't unsustainable rent have been one of the problems that were thought about and prepared for before they came into the comp?

Titans will be fine long term
they'll settle in to be a mid range club ....averaging around 15K a year
finals every few years

a solid unit & easily the most succesful Gold Coast Franchise RL has had.
if someone wants to invest in them , & in our game
well this is fine too

these moronic assumptions that 1/3 of games will be taken to PNG , or we'll be surrendering the Coast to Flogball ( AFL) are ridiculous but typical of some of the posters in here.

How much did the "Center of Excellence" cost the club ?? That seems to be where all the money has gone.

Mind you - it was a worthwhile investment - it brought them the spoon!

If a few more of the GC's fans showed up (and they have good reasons not to), they might avoid this situation.

I think the Titans are better than middle range. They have averaged 19k attendence over their whole existance, and managed a 15k average in a spoon year.

Would many clubs perform as well?

I consider them still newish
they're crowds have been on a steady decline since year 1 , & I think they're crowds will fluctuate with success a bit from now on .. but settle in at around 15K over the 15 years or so

which is OK

And the AFL will own the Gold Coast.

The AFL will be getting that Metricon Stadium bumped up to 40k as well after the Comm Games bid was successful.

The Titans have had one horrible year on the field and they are panicking. Just calm down boys and relax. A big new TV deal is just around the corner meaning you will be just fine.

BTW, who the f**k is Michael Broughton? More wonderful Telecrap journalism it seems. It's f**king Paul Broughton!!!!
