Titans Game Thread

Ok, my two cents worth from where I was sitting at the southern end of the ground.

Our goal-line defence, and really, defence in general was awesome for the first 30 minutes. The main problem with that is that the game goes for 80 minutes boys :(

We hit the ground running and then the heat (and no I'm not making excuses, just stating facts) started to take its toll. Deadset, that ground is like an oven when you're inside it. You'll get a puff of breeze every probably 15-20 minutes for a period of roughly 30-40 seconds and then it disappears. Although it's the same for both sides, the Titans play there every second week, so consequently are more used to it than any of the other NRL sides bar maybe the Cows and Broncos.

Now, onto the game. WTF is it with throwing stupid passes inside our own 30? On at least a handful of occasions when we were trying to get out of our own territory, sometimes on the back of tries, we thought we were the Harlem Globetrotters. While it looks good if it comes off, there's a time and a place to be doing that and I'm pretty sure its not coming off your own end.

The forwards kept Prince quiet for the first half hour and then he ran riot, getting the ball whenever he wanted it and pretty much doing whatever he wanted. Aku is still a bit green, but I'm happy to stick with him and Jimmy probably won't make that many errors in a game for the rest of the year. IMO the difference between the two sides, apart from a bit of early season fitness was that the Titans had a very, very good halfback playing halfback, whereas we had a very, very good five-eight playing halfback.

All in all, it's not all doom and gloom guys, it's not like the team will be playing in a sauna every week and there's still 25 long rounds to go.

Mullo isn't in the same class as Prince

Prince is the best halfback in the game today in my books. From 10 metres out on attack he draws the attention of about 3 defenders and can still score an individual try. And if he doesn't go himself because he has too much attention on him its a simple dummy then pass and he puts his man over.

Judging by most people's reactions on here, you'd think we may as well give up now

What the f**k are you on about?

We played terrible and the team let the fans down with their attitude towards that game. Hence the deserved criticism. Has anyone here actually said our season is in sh*t because of it? If not, what are you basing this on exactly?

Well looking back I think we're just a bit shell shocked more than anything. Just dissapointed that we lost after getting a 14-0 lead. I know I might be harping on about it but really you shouldn't lose after that.

What did everyone think of Matt White's game? I thought he was solid but fairly average. Hadn't gone up a level or really even lifted to play his old club.

I might be reading a little bit too much into everyone's comments, but to me it seems like everyone is slightly over-reacting. We lost, so what. It's on again next week and, as I said, the heat played a large role in our sub-standard final 50 minutes of the game. I could just about guarantee that the boys won't be playing in that sort of sauna-like heat for the rest of the year. A lot has been made of the heat factor and IMO you can't fully appreciate how stifling it was unless you were up there ...

Just watched the first half again on fox.

Massive blow Aku not scoring his 2nd try in the 30th minute. We didn't touch the ball again that whole half.

Heat was a huge factor in the game. It was extremely hot and would have affected the knights more than the Titans.

Prince is the best half in the game by far and is more dangerous with the Titans who knows his plays inside out.

Matt White was ordinary but he was probably affected by the heat as well.

Next week against the sharks will give us a better indication on how we are traveling and they will be without Kearney and Ross.

Only the first game really but to be honest i saw NOTHING new from off season training..they STILL let in a try before half time more times that not and..if my under 15s went tackling like the knights did for the brad myers try..id haul them off the field to spend some time on the bench to think about how they were lucky Not to break their girly fingers with the jersey grabbing.
Having said that..at the game it was oppresivily hot and as cartright said after the game...wasnt there a rule about being in qld and NOT playing in the afternoon???
prince was always going to work us over....early in the season but we cant let the away games slip
