Toby warned

Yep. Vague semantics, deliberately taken out of context.

There’s a million things to be mad or sad about, including actual abuse, inequality, violence and oppression.

This is scraping the barrel. Elevating dumb shit like this just creates fatigue and skepticism in the general population. It leads the average person to cynicism and dismissal of larger issues.
I liked this. Unliked it. Then liked it again just so I could do it twice.

Who's looking out for Tobys wellbeing in all this.
Employed by an organisation which allows him to front up on national television and be quizzed by a bunch of goons who only deal in gay jokes, putdowns or innuendo.
He wasnt forewarned of the questions, nor coached on what to say nor educated to the fact that society has changed. He is a young Australian male brought up in a democratic country which is, or was, known the world over for its great pubs, beers, mates and beautiful women.
Most of us guys have gone out, drunk beer, had a ball and hoped above all else that we could pull a chick. With a backdrop of the best live music in the world.
Thank God for Australia.
Best country on earth.
Those days are past me now...happily married...but man l wouldnt change them them for anything.
Good on you Toby. You did nothing wrong. You denegrated noone. People can read whatever they want to into his comments. He had no agenda of abuse nor rape nor paedopbilia in his comments. If hes naive then we all - or most - have been so maybe a quiet word rather casting a stone wouldve been a better option.
Maybe hes the real victim in this. Because nobody warned him that its now 2021 and we now live in a country that isnt the one that shaped us.
Thank God for the Aussie larrikins of the past from the digger to the rigger all the way up to the Prime minster hawke.

Nail, hammer, head.

This is the conversation we should be having, with all due respect to the current subjects objectors. This here is what's dividing us all across all of our social issues. Well said.

In my job, every single word I speak is recorded, and preserved against the need for a court of law at a later date.
One of my colleagues a few years ago, made a remark over the tape as a small portion of a long sentence, which was completely taken out of context, cherrypicked and played before an inquest. The fact that he spoke those 5 words was subject to further disciplinary action blah blah blah.
This is the world we live in. Everyone takes offence at something, and there are PLENTY of lawyers begging for work out there. Everyday, ordinary, bland interviews that no one can be offended at are unfortunately the way to go. Sad state of affairs.

I’m worried about girls/media baiting him now. Poor bloke just needed a quiet word in his ear.

I’ve liked pretty much everything I’ve seen of Abdo so far - seems a fairly impressive character, I like that he’s happy to cheerlead his team (I don’t like that it’s Manly), but this stinks in my opinion.
I really hope (and kind of expect) that Abdo, being a straight up fella, had a quiet word with Toby to say something along the lines of ‘listen mate, we know you were only having a laugh, and what you said wasn’t really offensive, but with the way of the world currently, we’re going to have to put out a statement that we can’t condone those types of jokes, and that you’re apologetic and will do some counselling and shit, but in reality mate, just be careful in future’
If that’s happened, then I’m fine with it. If it hasn’t, and they’ve just thrown him under the PC bus, it stinks. We’ll never know that though....

Should ask his boss what he thinks - he has been absent in all of this - I’d be interested in his take.
V’landys absence could be that he’s like a lot of people, a moment that we could just shake our heads and move on OR he really is the Prince of Darkness and spending a lot of time in the crypt recovering from an off season of blood letting

V’landys, chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, was quick to back Abdo in his stance on Tuesday.

“The way Andrew handled it was 100 percent correct,” V’landys said. “The way it has been handled from our part is exactly what should happen. To be fair to him he was joking, but it wasn’t an appropriate joke.

“Our thing is - and we will not move from it - you have to respect women ... and it’s just not respectful.”

So the issue was Toby was objectifying women, yet the NRL is fine with teams having cheerleaders?
