Todd Greenberg stands down

Yes, and he was doing or trying to do that in the face of a hostile media scared of losing their interests and clubs (hello Roosters) who want more power.

Which means he failed.

Answer me this, if he got pushed out now for not bending over to the clubs and media what has he been doing for the last four years when the media and clubs haven’t been trying to get rid of him?

You must have a short memory if you dont remember VR life before the bunker with its 16 replays and 5min decision making!

That still happens often with the bunker. So do the howlers which were supposed to be eradicated by all this great new tech.

The bunker is apparently going to cost us another 2m to renew the contract soon, there was a story recently about how they might not renew it though it wasn’t a well put together story so take it with a grain of salt.

i will admit i havent been following this one as closely as others. I have noticed lately Gould talking in his usual riddles about why Greenberg got sacked.

It always seems to circle back to giving clubs more power. Can someone explain to me what that even means, what power do the clubs want that they dont currently have or conversely what power do the NRL not want to give them? Dots aren't connecting for me..

1. NRL wants perpetual licenses, clubs dont. Why do NRl want this? It takes away the threat of clubs breaking away and forming their own comp.
2. Clubs want a greater split of the funding. Despite getting a massive grant rise 2 years ago they still cant run their businesses properly and want more of the games money. NRL wants that money for grassroots and revenue raising investment
3. All clubs (and nswrl and QRL) are members of the commission under the constitution and have the power to remove a commissioner if they get a majority. They dont have the power to appoint though and I suspect they would like direct reps as commissioners

Mackelmerkin playing at a GF is one of his greatest achievements????

And people are blowing up he is gone??? Really?? Lol oh dear!!

I guess his comment was too subtle for you? He was talking about the inclusivity of the game and how during his reign there has been a key focus on ensuring all groups can feel part of our great game.

Listening to Ennis the other night and his experiences of Greenberg at Bulldogs it is clear he is a very humanistic person and has a strong sense of social justice, and cares about players and staff.

I suspect he means this is symbolic of his efforts to promote the game to new markets. He did some good things, or at least was around while some good things happened.

As an example the NRL clubs would never have considered a women's competition without the NRL telling them it is happening. The NRL clubs are total knuckle draggers who still don't get the point of a women's game at all. They don't understand marketing, promoting, politics, or any of that stuff. They don't understand memberships and got dragged into that against their will. I mean, the list goes on.
All that and Crowds are stagnant, same as Memberships and the ratings are also down. Refereeing is still poor, we spent millions on the bunker and they are still getting basic shit wrong and the game as a spectacle is as poor as I have seen it. But but but the game is so inclusive now because Mackelmerkin played at a GF and we have a half arsed women’s comp with 4 whole teams that goes a whole month. Truly amazing!! What a changer!!

Nothing like it used to, go back and watch some games season before the bunker, it is painful!
I'd do away with VR all together but that would require a respectful and responsible tv partnership and we know we havent got that.

I kind of agree about getting rid of it, or at least reducing what it can call on. The refs rely on it to much imo but yeah it won’t go anywhere because of tv and because it brings sponsor money in.

lol the game was always inclusive, that was the appeal other opposed to other sports like AFL which has looked like a klan meeting for most of its history.

We have always celebrated other cultures and people from all backgrounds. RL was the working mans game while Yawnion was a game for rich wankers.

But but but now it’s everyone’s game thanks to Todd and all his achievements and his inclusive ad. Derp!!

First two issues are responsibility of the clubs. On memberships when the NRl was controlling it and putting in a few million $'s to run the marketing memberships rose. Any surprise since 2018 when the clubs took back responsibility they have gone nowhere?

Third issue is TV's fault (and to some degree the capturing of the data) Ch9 is down, and thats because it is truly woeful coverage. Fox is up when you add Foxsports and Kayo figures.

Agreed about the spectacle, they tried to do something but the media hammered them so much that they quickly gave up. A failing Id agree but in the NRL world where the media are controlling you, would anyone have been able to do anything different? They did at least get players to play the ball properly!

Womens comp I agree as well. Maybe if the clubs hadnt demanded that extra $32mill a year there would have been enough grassroots money to fund it properly? Having said that if they had, no doubt people would have whinged NRL was spending $550k a day lol!

Says the f**khead calling me a a Trump supporter, hypocrite.

And honestly all you ever do is criticise the game, no matter who is in charge or what they do. Honestly it’s like you on the AFL house payroll, Caro is that you?

They have a big influence on NSWRL as they are all members of that org as well. ouve got the likes of Peponis and Politis on their board. QRL less so I think, largely due to the lack of Qland NRL clubs influence

To be accurate i said you were starting to sound like a Trump supporter. You remind me of that old boomer who starts a rant with I'm not racist but..
And there's the AFL trotted out again.
