in no particular order

pixies - surfer rosa (really nothing between the pixies albums but thought i'd be different to you doolittle advocates)

nirvana - nevermind (number 1 seattle grunge album ever, yes even moreso than pearl jams ten)

gerling - when young terrorists chase the sun (deadset funky, top aussie band, top live act)

nofx - the decline (1 song, 24 minutes, pure genius)

Michael Franti & Spearhead - Stay Human (Flows beautifully, great message, awesome tunes)

ask me in two weeks and this could all change mind you. the above basically reflects my mood at the moment.

This is damn hard, but,

SAIGON KICK - Devil In The Details - One of the best bands of all time and this is probably their best album. They always got lumped into the hair metal scene, but they offered so much variety in their writing that you couldn't really catagorise them.

RAGE - Soundchaser - RAGE have been around for almost 20 years and are producing the best music of their long career. Their last 2 albums (this and Unity) have been the 2 best metal albums of the past 2-3 years... by anyone.

LACRIMOSA - Inferno - I don't really listen to goth music, but LACRIMOSA blew me away when a fat German dude put it on in a little record store I used to visit. It's rock, it's classical, it's goth, it's great. Almost all of it's in German, but it just sounds so amazing. I own about 5 of their albums and think they're all great, but this is the first one I bought and it always brings back memories of when I first heard it.

STEVE VAI - Fire Garden - It opens with an explosion that scares the crap out of just about anyone that hears it for the first time and what follows is one of the best guitar albums of all time. There's something for everyone here, though it's not an album for everyone. Tons of variety, tons of flare and tons and tons of great music.

I'll have to think hard about my 5th.

- Revolver - The Beatles
- Girlfriend - Matthew Sweet
- Bee Thousand - Guided By Voices
- Grand Prix - Teenage Fanclub
- Frosting On The Beater - The Posies

These are merely the tip of the iceberg though. I'd probably have to do a Top 20 at the very least.

Kudos for Wilco and the Pixies getting multiple mentions...

I can't go on for five, too hard after I get passed three, so here goes:

1. Usher - 8701: My personal favourite of all albums. Funky, meaningful and has a way of making me feel great no matter what mood I'm in. Track after track, I just find it amazing how people can come up with this kind of stuff. Great album, and paved the way for my favourite recording artist today.
Favourtie track: U Don't Have To Call/U Remind Me

2. 98 Degrees - The Collection: Once again dodging things by naming the collection as opposed to an lp. I know what the general consensus is thinking, hmmmm boy band? Yuck! Far from it in my opinion. Very soothing, mellow album for which I have a lot of appreciation. Sentimental value with this album as it was given to me by a special friend.
Favourite Track: Invisible Man

3. Sum41 - All Killer No Filler: My friends and I often had raging debates as per what the best genre music was. Sum41 introduced me to punk (or trendy pop as I like to call it) and I love this album to the days. From here, I started to appreciate Foo Fighters and New Found Glory and what not. Great album here.
Favourite Track: Fat Lip

I suppose in the end it all comes down to personal taste an interest. If it were a 'best albums of all time' thread then things would probably be different for my rankings...?

Looks like my taste in music is unlike anyone who has posted in this thread already. My 5 favourites changes from time to time.

In no order:

The Immaculate Collection, Madonna:Great CD. The best is probably Into the Groove.

Lovebox, Groove Armada: Sensational CD. Can't go past Groove is on and Madder.

Michael Buble, Michael Buble: Not sure how to categorise this - it's not usually my kind of music but this CD is fantastic. I love the whole CD.

Since I Left You, the Avalanches: Again, a bit different to the standard pop type stuff I tend to go for. I like listening to this one when I'm driving.

Heavier Things, John Mayer: Probably my favourite. Clarity is my favourite track at the moment.

Awesome album. Are these guys still together, haven't heard anything from them since.

Also, groove armada's lovebox, i was particularly disappointed with. too much filler for my liking

That was a superb album. Word is they are currently working on the follow-up.
They have lost one member, Dexter Fabay, which is a big loss - he's considered one of the best DJ's in the world.
