Lamella can't get a game ahead of Townsend, now go toddle off to the Goons forums and pretend you think you know about their players.

No, the reason he is not starting is because AVB thinks Townsend is currently better.

Boxhead has already brought it up but being a decent dribbler is all well and good but if there's nothing at the end of it it's pointless.

There are goalkeepers with more assists than Townsend.

Andros Townsend signs new Tottenham contract

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend has signed a new four-year contract with the club.
The 22-year-old has become a first-team regular this season and scored on his full England debut in the 4-1 win against Montenegro last week.

He became caught up in a race row with England boss Roy Hodgson but described the incident as "negative, silly news."
Townsend scored on his Spurs debut against Charlton in 2011 and had nine loan spells away from White Hart Lane.
After impressing during his final loan spell - with QPR last season - Townsend has earned a place in Andre Villas-Boas's team this season, making eight appearances so far.
He earned his second England cap in the 2-0 win over Poland on Tuesday.
Villas-Boas said: "We're very proud of what he has done.
"We have seen him play with so much confidence and determination, he's really set his place in the team, for Tottenham and for his country.
"Whenever he's been called up by myself or Roy he's given great performances.
"At the moment we're very happy with what he's been doing and I think Roy thinks the same.
"It's wonderful for him. He's come along with the explosion he had in the Premier League, not just with Tottenham but with his country.
"He is doing extremely well for club and country and deserves credit."

Just saw today's team list; Lamela and Eriksen on the bench. What the f**k!? At least Soldado is starting again and Naughton was finally dropped for Chiriches; I expect Vertonghen will play left back. Dembele dropped out in favour of Sandro as well. Hmm. I'm really wondering why Lamela didn't start over at least Siggy, and why Eriksen didn't start when he's been our best player. This is a game we really can't afford to lose.

Nice to see the beast back and he really did boss the midfield. Geez we missed him last season.

Europa Cup will probably start with Chadli, Eriksen and Lamela across the mid field, not bad depth.

Lamela is only 20 and still 2 years younger than Townsend and at this stage of his career Townsend's form is well in advance of Lamella's, he's not far off our best player and I dont think too many people saw this coming as we have Lennon and Lamela fighting for second choice right mid behind Townsend.

Villa's midfield is nothing special, but yes, it is good to see Sandro starting again. Having three central midfielders like Paulinho, Dembele and Sandro to pick from gives us great depth. What annoys me about that is that Eriksen and Lamela really should have started this game, but eh.

Erm. Twiz, you do realize Lamela's last few seasons in Italy pretty much laugh at Townsend's current form? The only reason it seems like Townsend is playing *better* than Lamela is because AVB hasn't given Lamela a single start, which continues to drive me - and most Spurs fans - absolutely batty.

Townsend is playing well, but his end product is still an issue, as today proved. He got lucky with a cross that the goalie didn't react to well enough. He set up a bunch of half chances in the second half but that was against a left fullback who completely nodded off in the back end of the game. Everyone knows he is a fantastic dribbler and currently he has the best stats of any in the league IIRC, but he's still a player that doesn't get great crosses or passes in to Soldado. Thankfully, he fixed his main issue which was taking constant shots from outside the box, this led to the team actually keeping the ball more. There's no doubt he is playing very well, but I'm in no way convinced Lamela wouldn't be a much better performing player if he was put there.

The reality is, we are leaving one of the best young winger talents in the world on the bench who can also play attacking midfield, and yet starting players like Holtby and Siggurdsson. It's a credit to AVB that he doesn't mindlessly start his big name players, but really, this is just getting ridiculous. And he brought an unfit Lennon on over Lamela to close out the game? What the f**k!!??

Anyway, on the game, it wasn't very comfortable at all. Villa's forwards let them down every time; Weimann and Benteke both should have had a goal each between them at least. Still, a win is a win and we needed some freak luck for our first goal. Hopefully that tells people not to panic; I was confident that we would bounce back, just not with that line-up. Oh well, I guess this is very much a season where we can win even if not all of our best players (Lamela, Eriksen) are out there.

Also, I'm ecstatic for Soldado! Hopefully people can finally get off his back and realize just how well he is playing; a goal and an assist just tops it off really. Another great performance, even without the two goals in the equation. He is easily the best striker we have had in years.

Lamela himself has admitted that the EPL is much more physical than he is used to so atm we are trying to bulk him up abit and get him fitter than he was when he first got to WHL.

Bottom line is that Townsend is playing better than Lamela is atm.

AVB has said he is a long term prospect so he expects him to take quiet a while to settle in. He signed on a 6 year contract.

Townsend is 2 footed and could play on the left if need be to accommodate Lamela or Lennon on the right although Lamela has played on both sides and also plays well at no 10.

Should have Capoue back next game as well.

Any more of your players you want me to talk shit about. Townsend has been on fire since i called him out.

Maybe Lamela's form over the past seasons in Italy is exaggerated. He obviously did pretty well over there, but even that timid sack of shit Gervinho is ripping it up for Roma. Still, he's young and obviously talented so I'm sure he'll show it at some stage.

Tbf you could have signed someone like Remy and he would've been your best since Berba :p

Good to see you guys get the win. I've said it a few times but i'll say it again, i'd much rather see Spurs in the 4 than those red mugs from Manchester.

That's fair enough and all but then why isn't a small player like Eriksen having issues? Lamela is fast and he is certainly strong, the only real issue I can see is fitness.

But that is flawed logic as Lamela hasn't played at all. How can you say Townsend is playing better than Lamela when we've only seen a combined 60 minutes or so of Lamela across the Premier League this season? It's unfair to say "the player starting all of our matches is playing better than the one not starting at all". What happens if Townsend gets injured/rested for a game, and Lamela starts and bags a hat-trick?

If Lamela is viewed as a long term prospect, that's cool. As long as nobody in the office forgets that and tries to move him on, then yeah, maybe I can stomach this a bit longer. But when, for the most part, Townsend and Siggy aren't playing that well, I think we would be much better served with at least a second natural winger in the team. Siggy does ok, but our attack stalls more often than not when we go to our left side.

There is one thing though. Townsend pushing Lennon out means that we actually have someone who can cross the ball as our opposite winger to Bale/replacement now.

Haha yes please!

I might be exaggerating his lack of inclusion as well, but really, leaving a 26 million pound player on the bench for so long is just.....un-Spurs like.

I just want to say that I'm not trying to belittle Townsend, the difference between this game and his last few games for us is monumental. We all know he played very well for QPR and now for England, he just didn't seem to be getting his end product right for us specifically. He seems to have fixed the issue, and now he is looking like a top winger. I just pray Lamela gets his start over Siggy soon.

It is a bit bizarre that a club in your position spent 30 mill on a project player.

There's no doubt he's got potential but if you're gonna break your club record surely it'd be on a player that'd produce right away. You look at the players that have moved for about that much recently (Hazard/ Oscar) and it's a bit strange.
