TOYOTA CUP SQUAD NAMED FOR SEASON 2009
4.30pm, Monday 10 November 2008

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have kicked off preparations for Toyota Cup season 2009 with a 34-man squad coming together Monday to begin pre-season training.
The depth of the squad is a highlight with a total of 15 players having featured for the Eels at some point during season one of the national under 20’s competition in 2008.
New recruit Lachlan Gowland also has Toyota Cup experience having played five games for St. George-Illawarra last season.
Head Coach Matt Cameron says while he’s enthusiastic about the quality of the 2009 squad there is a lot of hard work to be done before it’s ready to take the field.
“You can’t replicate experience so it’s a definite plus to have so many players having already played Toyota Cup,” Cameron said.
“However last season counts for very little with so many new guys coming in.
“We’re fortunate to have three 2008 Australian Schoolboys in Tim Auremi, Albert Kelly and Daniel Galati in the squad and we’ve recruited strongly if selectively from outside.
“But ultimately Parramatta’s focus is on developing our juniors and this squad is reflective of that, with the vast majority of the squad coming from junior clubs within our district and through the club’s district representative program.”
The Eels finished fifth on the 2008 Toyota Cup ladder and were eventually bundled out in week two of the Finals.

So any significant losses ?

The two significant losses would be Jon Mannah and Luke Latham in terms of having spent a good deal of the year in the Under 20's squad and would be considered the two players who would be looked at as forward leaders.

They have both signed with Cronulla Under 20's.

Other than that the only real losses would be the players moving up into the first grade/Wenty squads and Tony Williams.

Yep I noted Manah etc. So we have lost none of U20's age ? Good stuff.

So Mark Morrison is the coach or Cameron has still got the gig or might it all change when we appoint a head coach ?

No one of note that I am aware of. Some of the others may note some emmissions that I don't.

Morrison will be an assistant to Cameron in much the same way Joey Grima was I would think unless Cameron gets a/the first grade gig.

Anyone agree that should make this into a sticky and make it the official NYC 2009 thread??

I believe Joe Mataele will be playing for Wenty despite the fact that he's still eligible for NYC.

whats taniela LASALO like? any good?

he virtually played 3/4 of the season last year and become a bit of a strike weapon in the centres, are you sure you don't remeber him in the few matches that were televised particularly the finals games??

he'll be very good...

Did he make Tonga's WC squad Stagger???

yes he did..but didn't get a run unfortunately.

On top of Joe Mataele possibly playing for Wenty, I believe Luke Motinelli and Jay Hemming may also make an appearence for the Magpies but I can't confirm that at the moment.

Solomone Lasolo, the name rings a bell. Was he with us this year, or Holic was he one of yours?
