Under the rules for compensatory draft selections, a team losing more or better compensatory free agents than it acquires in the previous year is eligible to receive compensatory draft picks.

The number of picks a team receives equals the net loss of compensatory free agents up to a maximum of four. The 32 compensatory choices announced today will supplement the 221 choices in the seven rounds of the 2012 NFL Draft (April 26-28), which will kick off in primetime for the third consecutive year.

The first round will be held on Thursday, April 26 and begin at 8 p.m. ET. The second and third rounds are set for Friday, April 27 at 7 p.m. ET followed by rounds 4-7 on Saturday, April 28 at noon ET.

This year, the compensatory picks will be positioned within the third through seventh rounds based on the value of the compensatory free agents lost.

Compensatory free agents are determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. The formula was developed by the NFL Management Council. Not every free agent lost or signed by a club is covered by this formula.

Three clubs this year (Atlanta, San Diego and Buffalo) will each receive a compensatory pick even though they did not suffer a net loss of compensatory free agents last year. Under the formula, the compensatory free agents lost by these clubs were ranked higher than the ones they signed (by a specified point differential based upon salary and performance).

Thirty compensatory picks were awarded to clubs based upon the compensatory pick formula. By rule, two additional choices were awarded at the end of the seventh round to bring the total number of compensatory selections to 32, equaling the number of NFL clubs. The two additional picks were awarded to St. Louis and Indianapolis based upon the 2012 draft selection order.

Following are the compensatory free agents lost and signed last year by the clubs that will receive compensatory picks in the 2012 NFL Draft:

So Buffalo lose two first round picks and get a 7th rounder..

Colts lose 2 guys who are shit...and get 3 picks?

Who gives these picks out. What a stupid process.

I am not sure which one is the more complicated?

1. This
2. QB rating system
3. The NFL draft

.

i'm sure nobody cares but the rams signed (the other) steve smith. not sure if he has fully recovered from his knee injuries but he will add to the crowd of #2 and #3 wrs on the team.

still need a bonafide #1 wr for bradford. i don't think it's gonna be blackmon even if he's sitting there at #6. it's just not fisher's style.

When the contract was signed on March 21, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that free agent defensive end Mark Anderson of the Buffalo Bills would be making $27.5 million over four years. That may not be the case, however, as a report from Mark Gaughan of The Buffalo News has distinctly different numbers.

According to a league document obtained by Gaughan, Anderson's contract is actually worth $19.5 million over four years - a rather substantial discrepancy. Gaughan also notes that the only portion of Anderson's salary that is guaranteed is $7.9 million, which includes a $6 million signing bonus and his first-year salary of $1.9 million. He'll earn an additional $100,000 from a workout bonus. If the Bills wish to cut ties with him at any point after his initial season, they can do so and not owe him anything.

Anderson's base salary will be $2.5 million, $4 million and $5 million in respective subsequent years. The $4.875 million per year average will likely be much more palatable to Bills fans than the $6.875 million deal that was reported last week. Anderson earned just $1.37 million playing for the New England Patriots a year ago, when he recorded 10 sacks in a part-time role.

THAT is a lot more reasonable of a contract imo.

Still alot for a one year wonder so far

Did ok at the Bears.

Had 6 sacks at the Texans when opposite Mario in the 4-3 but with absolute scrubs at DT.

I don't think he'll be great, but he's better than Kelsay & Merriman.

But we also front-loaded it when we have a shitload of room in the 1st year. So it makes sense.

I think its a good deal
if things dont work out, they cut him at the end of the year and move on without a cap hit. Worth a shot across from Super Mario

Im kind of hoping the Bills draft Michael Floyd, Their D looks pretty good to me, they need some depth and to spend an early round pick on LB but outside that i like it. Would love to see them get more exciting. They need another quality TE too i think

panthers rb goodson traded to raiders.

does this mean stewart is staying with the team?

.

goodson traded for Bruce Campbell which is a good trade for both teams. fills some depth in a weak position for both teams.

hopefully Stewart stays now.

Evan Silva:

#Rams have signed G/T Robert Turner. Turner started 2 games in 5 years with the #Jets.
