Brandon Jacobs to the Niners was a weird one.
Hard to find a better short yardage back than Gore imo

Bit of a myth actually, we were pretty poor in short yardage last season.

Jacobs essentially replaces Anthony Dixon, an upgrade as a short yardage back, he won't get more than 5-10 touches with Gore and Hunter in the mix

I think its clear Vilma wont be part of the siaints for much longer

yeah definitely looks like it. Peter King and Vilma going at it on twitter, i think JV knows what is in store for him.

@SI_PeterKing: Curtis Lofton, Chris Chamberlain, David Hawthorne. Get the message, Jonathan Vilma?

@JonVilma51: RT @SI_PeterKing: Curtis Lofton, Chris Chamberlain, David Hawthorne. Get the message, Jonathan Vilma?"that u know how to type peoples names??

@JonVilma51: @SI_PeterKing reckless journalism is beneath you sir. You've become a glorified blogger

@JonVilma51: RT @SI_PeterKing the nfl investigation has NOTHING to do with ur tweet. You've now turned into a blogger who takes shots at players on twitter

@SI_PeterKing not going to go back and forth with you, enjoy your night sir.

To be honest as soon as we signed Lofton Vilma was in trouble as Lofton is our starting MLB and he would have to shift to WLB, with Hawthorne and Chamberlain he probably does get cut.

That said another excellent signing by the Saints and props to Loomis for what he has done for us this offseason, pretty much no cap room to work with and we still have to get a deal hammered out with Brees.

Vilma comes off like a bitch there.

Hope he does get cut after that.

Also D.Bell has signed with the Iggles....trading out one injury prone Bills LT for another.

Bell is a good short term replacement
We will need to give him help with chips and alike against the elite pass rushers because he's not an elite LT, but he's just about as good as we could hope to get at this stage of proceedings and moving up to grab one of the few day 1 starting left tackles was going to cost us too much

We can draft some oline help in the middle rounds, hand picked by Mudd as Kelece and Watkins were to help provide some depth

Id imagine that when they discussed the options of replacing Peters that it was Howard Mudd's opinion that reigned supreme.
Reid has his faults, but bowing to someone with superior knowledge is one of his true strengths. Bell wouldnt have been signed unless Mudd was confident he could do well in our system.

Vick will be sleeping more soundly tonight

Bengals trade LB Keith Rivers to the Giants for a 5th round pick.

If he can stay healthy, I think that's a steal for the G-men

Steelers signed TE Leonard Pope to a one year deal. Thanks Haley.
WR Jericho Cotchery signed a 2 year deal.
And Mike Wallace is refusing to sign his tender at the minute. Good luck with that, Mike.

The rich get richer.

FMD...Giants biggest need and they get a top 10 first round talent in the 5th round.

Wonder why Philly didn't give up their 5th. Rivers can play outside in the 4-3.

Really hoped Buffalo would make a play for him. For a 5th...that is very reasonable.

It's not all roses for the Giants.

Rivers missed all of last season (with a non-football injury no less), has a reputation as a bit of "soft" player, and only has a single year left on his contract @ $2.16 million.

The Bengals probably thought might as well get something for him while you can especially if he wasn't penciled in as a starter with Manny Lawson returning.

It also would be silly to move Boley from OLB to MLB IMO.

the same reason why no one else gave up a 4th for DeMeco Ryans, no one else thought to ask the question
sometimes a club can just be in the right place at the right time or ask the right question

as ab said, this isnt all roses for the g-men, Rivers has some issues

@AdamSchefter: No team tried to sign Steelers RFA WR Mike Wallace to an offer sheet and, with deadline to do it Friday, it is not expected that one will.

Yeah well we enquired and he said he wants to be paid like Larry Fitzgerald.

Good luck with that...
