BBC confirmed the Cole/Gallas swap not long before Matt23 posted it. It's a done deal.

And who's kidding who  2m for Cygan  This to the club that sold Sorin for 3m. What are they on?

Arsenal also signed Brazilian Under-19 captain Denilson, 18, in a deal with Sao Paolo which could rise to 4m for the midfielder. And 18 year old Japan under 21 international Ito also may have signed (didn't see it confirmed).

Blues beat deadline to sign Cole

Cole's transfer had to be completed by midnight - or not at all
Chelsea have ended a long-running saga by signing England defender Ashley Cole from Arsenal in exchange for £5m and defender William Gallas.
The deal was completed just before the transfer deadline with Cole, who was with the England squad in a Manchester hotel, having his medical nearby.

Cole is believed to have signed a five-year deal worth £90,000 per week.

Chelsea had been linked with Cole, 25, all summer, but disagreements over the transfer fee stalled the move.

A joint statement from the clubs said: "Chelsea FC and Arsenal have agreed terms for the transfers of Ashley Cole and William Gallas.

"Chelsea will also pay Arsenal £5m. Both players have agreed personal terms and passed their respective medicals."

Although all the relevant paperwork had been lodged with the Premier League, neither club had made an announcement by the time the midnight deadline passed.

It was not until 0125 BST on Friday that the statement was finally issued.

I honestly don't see what all the fuss is about Cole. He is not that good and certainly nowhere near the 20mil that was being bandied about. I can see Cole being another of these expensive Chelsea signings that warm the bench all year although I suppose he only has Bridge for competition.

Luis Boa Morte seems to have signed for West Ham for 5 Mill plus Etheringham.. Wide running left winger/midfielder will be a good signing. Be nice if SWP joins him on the right.

Villa palm off Baros................

Villa swap Baros for Carew
Monday 22 Jan 2007

Lyon have completed the signing of Aston Villa's Czech Republic international striker Milan Baros, with Norwegian striker John Carew moving in the opposite direction.

The French side are managed by Gerard Houllier who worked with Baros when the pair were at Liverpool.

The then Reds boss signed the 25-year-old for £3.6million from Banik Ostrava in December 2001 and Baros went on to score 19 goals in 68 Premiership games for the club.

After top-scoring at Euro 2004, Baros moved to Villa Park in August 2005 but endured a disappointing time in the Midlands.

He scored just nine goals in 42 Premiership games for Villa and managed only one this term - at Sheffield United last month.

The striker missed a string of chances in Saturday's 2-0 victory against Watford and was booed by a section of the Villa Park faithful.

Carew, a former Valencia and Roma forward, flew into Birmingham and sealed his move following a medical on Monday, signing a three and a half year contract.

Petrovski signs with Mariners

February 12, 2007

CENTRAL Coast Mariners kick-started its 2007-2008 season recruitment campaign today by signing former Australia striker and leading A-League marksman Sasho Petrovski.

Petrovski, 31, scored 14 goals for Sydney FC over two seasons.

But he had a difficult time in Sydney FC's tumultuous 2006-2007 season, failing to see eye to eye with recently sacked coach Terry Butcher and coming off the bench in later matches.

There was speculation he could link with former Sydney FC coach Pierre Littbarski's club team in Japan but Petrovski believed he could enjoy further success with the Mariners.

"I'm looking forward to it," Petrovski said. "When things werent going too well with Sydney earlier on in the year, I thought coming to the Mariners would be the perfect and ideal move if I was to continue in the Hyundai A-League.

"As a goalscorer, you always want to score goals and break a few records along the way. I always put a lot of pressure on myself to score goals and I have ambitions win trophies, win awards and break records with the Mariners."

The Mariners see Petrovski as the man to supply some much-needed edge in front of goal.

"One of the key areas where we were often found wanting last season was up front and, in Sasho, we have acquired one of the best finishers in the Hyundai A-League," Mariners chairman Lyall Gorman said.

"I'm very excited to be welcoming a player of Sasho's stature to the club and his signing is the first of a few that we believe will see us re-establish ourselves as a force to be reckoned with in Australian football and accelerate our ambition to become the centre of excellence for football in Australia."

Petrovski's goalscoring exploits also include earning the National Soccer League top goalscorer award in 2000-2001 after a 21¬goal haul for champion Wollongong Wolves.

Petrovski made his Socceroos debut in August 2001 at Japan's Shizuoka Stadium and was invited to several training camps under former Socceroos boss Guus Hiddink in the lead up to Australia's World Cup qualifying triumph over Uruguay in November 2005.

Last August, he netted his first senior international goal when the Socceroos made their first appearance after the 2006 FIFA World Cup at Aussie Stadium in an Asian Cup qualifier against Kuwait.
