SCHURRLE SIGNING COMPLETED

Posted on: Tue 25 Jun 2013

Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce the transfer of Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen.

The 22-year-old moves to Stamford Bridge from the Bundesliga club, whom he joined back in 2011.

It was announced on 13 June that Chelsea FC and Bayer Leverkusen had reached an agreement for Schurrle's transfer. He has signed a five-year contract and will wear the No.14 shirt.

'I am so happy now I have signed and it is an honour for me to play for this club, with this team and for these great fans,' Schurrle said. 'I am really looking forward to it.'

A versatile attacker, Schurrle can play either as a creative wide player or a central striker. His ability to drift inside from either flank is one of his biggest strengths and he has developed a penchant for scoring goals of the spectacular variety.

A German international, he began his career at local club Ludwigshafener SC, before moving to Mainz in 2009.

He made his league debut against the team he would go on to serve, playing in a 2-2 draw for Mainz against Leverkusen on the opening day of the 2009/10 season.

The following month, Schurrle showcased his goalscoring pedigree with his first strikes at senior level, netting a brace in a 3-2 win at VFL Bochum.
In what was an impressive first season in the Bundesliga, he was a near ever-present and scored five goals in 34 appearances as Mainz finished ninth.

Just over a year after making his debut for Mainz, however, it was announced that Schurrle had signed a five-year contract with Leverkusen, and would join the club at the culmination of the 2010/11 season.
His second and final season with Mainz saw the youngster bow out in fine fashion, playing a pivotal role as they qualified for the UEFA Europa League by finishing fifth.

Schurrle, who played mainly as a striker, found the target in the first three league games of the campaign, and ended the season with a place in the history books after scoring a club-record 15 goals in 34 appearances.
Having completed his move to Leverkusen, Schurrle scored on his debut in a 4-3 German Cup win against Dynamo Dresden.

His league debut came against his former club, with Leverkusen falling to a 2-0 defeat against Mainz, and Schurrle scored his first league goal for the club in October during a 2-2 draw with Borussia Monchengladbach, before getting off the mark in European competition against Valencia a few days later.

Towards the end of the campaign, he scored in a 1-1 draw at Hamburg, and after also netting in a 3-3 draw against Hertha Berlin, he scored the only goal of the game to secure three points at Hoffenheim.
He made 40 appearances during his first season at Leverkusen, scoring nine goals in the process.

Schurrle's second season at Leverkusen proved more productive in terms of scoring goals, but it was his overall contribution, playing predominantly wide on the left, which continued to impress.

He scored the first goal of his final season at the club in a 3-1 win at Augsburg, and soon after provided a crucial assist for team-mate Stefan Kiebling as Leverkusen became the first team to inflict defeat on eventual champions Bayern Munich.

November proved a particularly fruitful period for Schurrle as he netted three times in the space of a fortnight, with goals against Fortuna Dusseldorf, Rapid Vienna and Schalke.

As the season edged towards its conclusion he scored twice in the reverse fixture against Fortuna Dusseldorf, while netting another brace the following month in a 5-0 win over Hoffenheim.

Schurrle ended the 2012/13 season, and his time at Leverkusen, having scored 14 goals in 43 matches.

After representing Germany at both Under-19 and Under-21 level, the young attacker earned his first call-up to the senior squad in November 2010, before being handed his debut as a late substitute in a friendly against Sweden.

He scored his first senior international goal in May 2011 in a 2-1 win against Uruguay, and after scoring two more goals in qualification he was named in Joachim Low's 23-man squad for the 2012 European Championships.

He appeared as a second-half substitute for Lukas Podolski in a 2-1 win over Denmark, before being handed a place in the starting line-up for the quarter-final against Greece (pictured above). Germany won that match 4-2 before losing in the semis against Italy, Schurrle an unused sub on that occasion.

He has scored seven goals in 24 appearances for Germany.

Two new features in an image! Luca Caldirola has done it! The captain of the Italian U21 national team has signed a four-year contract at SV Werder. The Italians in the new Triot "Away" 2013/14: "Werder Bremen is a great opportunity for me. As my adviser told me the Bremer interest, I said immediately that I would like to switch to Werder. The Club has a great tradition. I look forward to the coming years."

Welcome to Luca! (Translated by Bing)

If he's good enough he will get the game time. CM is a pretty open position at the moment. Lampard, Ramires, van Ginkel and Essien (who will be a RB back-up). He'll get game time in this rotation.

Mikel is on his way out and Romeu is off on loan.

He needed one more year, Hes obviously been lined up as Lamps replacement. If he was playing week in week out i could see him pushing himself into the NT for the WC. Hopefully he turns out like Varane did for Madrid.

Pfft...

Every club is a buying and selling club!

And seeing as you vultures stole Gotze and are still probably after Lewi, replacements had to come in.

Aubameyang is a cracking signing. Very quick and a good finisher. Will prove lethal on the counter. Add Mhkitaryan and Dortmund will be set for another crack at the UCL.

The group stages will be a breeze and by the time the knock-out phase comes around the worlds best right-back will be back from injury.

Another good season ahead!

That's not what Watzke says

Vultures. Just like Doofmund forked out the money for Marco Reus, but of course that is weakening the league when you're riding the Yellow & Black train

As for the world's best right back, I wasn't aware Phillip Lahm was injured?

Marcos Flores signs for Central Coast Mariners after release from Melbourne Victory

Updated 3 hours 12 minutes ago

Former A-League player of the year Marcos Flores has signed a one-year deal with the reigning champions Central Coast just hours after being released by Melbourne Victory.

The 27-year-old had been heavily linked to a move to the Mariners with the club confirming the speculation in a statement on Friday.

Flores, who was a marquee player in his one season at the Victory, will take a pay cut to play with the Mariners, fitting under the salary cap at his new club.

Mariners coach Graham Arnold is looking to rebuild his squad after losing the likes of Bernie Ibini (Shanghai East Asia), Mathew Ryan (Club Brugge), Oliver Bozanic (Luzern) and Pedj Bojic (Sydney FC) in the off-season.

The coach plans to slot Flores into the playmaker role vacated by young star Tomas Rogic, who made the move to Scottish club Celtic in the January transfer window.

"We are excited to have signed such a talented player as Marcos Flores," Arnold said.

"It is well known that Marcos was Victory's marquee player last year, so for us to not only sign him but fit him inside the salary cap is a fantastic coup for the club.

"We are sure Marcos will be a great addition to the team."

Flores had an injury-interrupted year at the Victory, playing 22 times and scoring four goals but never really hitting the heights of his previous A-League stint at Adelaide United.

But he vows his best is yet to come.

"I am so happy to be able to play again with a smile on my face," Flores said.

"I am ready to eat the world for the Mariners.

"They are the champions, they are always successful and it is exciting to join Arnie as he wants me to be his number 10.

"I have been good in the A-League before but, with the Mariners, I will be better."

The Argentine attacker claimed goal-of-the-year honours last season with the Victory for his wonder strike against Wellington Phoenix, in which he worked a neat pair of one-twos with team-mate Gui Finkler.

But as the club's international marquee, Flores' move frees up an important spot for the Victory to secure a high-profile player.

Victory have been chasing Greek captain Giorgos Karagounis.

The 36-year-old ex-Fulham and Panathinaikos midfielder would be an ideal fit for the marquee position if his wage demands could be met.

This clears the way for Victory to get Karagounis. Good signing for CCM but this quote worries me:
"I am ready to eat the world for the Mariners.

If he does that he'll end up like Carlos Hernandez

Not a bad move. Suits both clubs.

Fiorentina have a decent chance at cracking the top 3 and Gomez gets to lead an attack again.
