Some of you on here understand the contracts better than me
Could Penrith say to Barrett yes we will release you on condition you don’t sign any Penrith players for 12 months

It appears Barrett was only on a 1 year contract .So was not signed for next year anyway
Not that I am surprised with the current people running the club .It appears we may be in trouble as we never had the right covid person from the club at the ground

I think you'll find Griffin will have his eye set on the two QLD jobs (Brisbane and NQ). Warriors third. Dogs last as they have by far the least talented squad.

When Green is sacked. That leaves another coach that will get a gig somewhere

Why is it that when things seem to be going smoothly for the club and it's full of promise...that SOMETHING always come out of the wood work to throw things out of wack?

If it's not Coaching drama, its the management. If not management then it's one of the players like Moylan, or Bryce or T May being a dick or doing something weird.

I hope Barrett stay for this year and hopefully the next. And I bloody well hope that Ivan, the rest of the coaching staff and our play makers ALL learn what they can from him before he does another runner on us pinching players as he goes.

Well said.

Sadly it's a thing called life. It hits you on the bum when you least expect it. Hopefully lessons are learnt if Trent chooses this job.....and it doesn't turn into a shit fight like it did before. Yes I'm looking at you Ivan. Also clauses need to be in place to stop 'overt poaching' on your way out. yes I'm looking at you Trent.

(I think it could be a poisoned challace with a board and full club all feuding).

Media reports saying it would be for 2021 as Barrett wants to get a trophy ring this year with the Panthers.

Also:

If they expect Barrett to fix the club they will be disappointed. He's doing a good job here but he has a team that took close to 10 years to develop with our halfback having done his NRL development under Maloney, Fittler, Andrew Johns, Greg Alexander and Gus. They need a coach who can really build something like Nathan Brown or Anthony Griffin even.

Yes, but they are usually gentlemen agreements.
More honour than anything to not deliberately poach each others players.
Depends on the integrity of the people doing it.
Gould had one with Uncle Nick and one when Bob Fulton was at Manly.

I really hope for the sake of our Club and more importantly Baz’s future, that he doesn’t take this toxic job.

He is doing a great job and with 12-18 more months under his belt, he will be the No.1 head coach on the open market.

He should be aiming at much more stable club.

I have my fingers crossed for you Baz

I think we will lose Barrett either way. If he knocks back the Bulldogs other opportunities might present themselves later on.
His two ex clubs in the Dragons and Sharks might come knocking later.

I think Paul Green will be Sharks coach and Dragons seem to be waiting until Flanagan can coach again

Reality
Barrett only has a 1 year deal this year.Pay has quit.It make sense for the new coach who ever it is to come in now. Then access what they have and what they need to win next year.
3 million will get you some pretty decent footballers

After his record at the Sea Eagles, appointing Barrett is a very brave move indeed by the Dogs.

If I was them I’d appoint Hook.

Sounds like he wants to finish the season here going by Brandys comments. The attraction of the bulldogs job is that he will be the boss which is probably the goal of 99 percent of assistants and their salary cap issues are gone after this season leaving them with millions to spend if you trust what the media is saying. If they offer him the job he will take it for sure IMO, hopefully they appoint an assistant and he goes there next season not straight away.

Anyone that takes the Dog's job is an idiot they won't see out their deal

I see why you say that but I also think the criticism the Bulldogs are taking & will continue to take re; treatment of Pay, will probably benefit the incoming coach & how they treat him.

I'd also think the Bulldogs & there supporters realise it's likely a 2 - 3 year job just to get them competing for the 8, so I think he'll get a bit of leeway & lower expectations. $3M in the kitty helps too.

Didn't he have a poor record with our under 20s during the period we were dominant?

He did but that was a transitional year for that 20s team. The players that formed the core of each of those dominant 20s sides were either moved up to reserves and first grade or still playing SG ball and Harold matts. Just before he took over that side Waqa, Dallin, Yeo, RCG, plus the hooker and fullback from that team(forgot names) all moved up to reserve grade or first grade. Guys like Cleary,May, Luai, Egan, etc were not yet ready to play 20s. Barrett had CHN and JFH just coming into the 20s as young guys playing up plus a lot of guys who have not gone on to have NRL careers. Not making excuses for him but that squad just wasnt in the class of the 2013 squad or the 2015 squad.
