Trent Merrin offered record deal by St George Illawarra as Dragons await decision on

What was he supposed to do given Merrin's position? Just let his manager come out and say the offer wasn't good enough so we're going else where, and then let us fans speculate as to what the issue was, sorta like with the Morris saga?

The way Beavis has worded his statement is fairly antagonistic and typically arrogant. My read on it is that the only way the 2 parties were ever going to come to an agreement is if the Dragons bent over and took it up the clacker.
If they made him an offer which they openly declared was the best offer they've ever made to a forward, then they certainly made it clear that keeping Merrin was a priority. If he wants more than that, the Dragons should move on and chase someone actually worth 1.8m.

All i have heard from trent in recent times is that he want's to stay he loves the club yadda yadda & he has been waiting for the dragons to make an official offer.Well Trent they have & you are supposedly not happy so what has changed. If he thinks he is worth more than reported he is dreaming.
If so do us a favour & shut the door on your way out.

Well said. All the talk from merrin was he loved the place, and wants to stay.
Will be interesting to hear what he has to say now.
Over rated, is a good player but i dont believe he is worth anywhere near $600k a season.
I will go on record and say, based on 2014 form, Creagh is twice as good a player as merrin, so to be offered a record deal for a forward at our club, while creagh takes paycuts, and to reject that offer just goes to show that Trent is getting to far ahead of himself!!!
I hope he is released in the off season. $600k a season would get us Packer AND Kasiano!!! And i know if i had to choose between merrin or BOTH Packer and Kasiano, i know who id take!!!
So see ya trent, thanks for the memories ( they wont be hard to forget as there really wasnt that many).

I know this is hard on you guys but spare a thought for me. I support the Sharks and like you blokes, so FFS someone tell Doust to get some good news happening

Trent likes the beach Mill's.
Could it be a "large" Xmas present heading your way?
Offer him $ 601k per year. ;-)

We really have no spot for him in the team Tru.
Gallen, Graham, Lewis, Bakuya, Bird.
Where do you play Merrin??

I think you may have misinterpreted my post. It wasn't a criticism of Mullholland, or the club for that matter. By 'doesn't bode well' I meant in terms of retaining Merrin. Coming out and preempting like that is unSaints like. For them to change tack now suggests to me that they are trying to prepare the fans for the worst following the backlash over Moz.

I don't have an issue with what they've done. It's just the fact that it's out of character is what is tweaking my pessimism.

Merrin doesnt like mary. It's a known fact amongst the players. You would think the writing has been on the wall for a while now

So Merrin's attitude suggests that he thinks he's been more valuable to the club than the likes of Jeremy Smith, Michael Weyman, Neville Costigan, Luke Bailey, Shawn Timmins etc.

In the current squad he is more valuable than any of those guys. None of your current forwards are even close to rep level.

Custard Guts isn't as good as he thinks he is. He is not in the upper echelon of world class forwards. How does he think he is as valuable as Gallen, Burgess, Scot, Graham etc, when he is barely an Origin benchie and wouldn't be if everyone was available, he hasn't played a test and he doesn't dominate at club level. Send him, his fairy dancing and his rubbish offloads packing and sign some blokes with grit.

Comparing us to other sides with regards to the totally underwhelming crew they have purchased again -joke.

FFS, it's not like he's going to say, 'our squad is crap'. It's part of his job as a Saints employee in the public light to talk up the club. I have certainly whinged about the club in the past, but some people actually look for things to complain about like it's a sport...

At 25, Merrin's best years are ahead of him. He has always had tremendous potential and skills and he will blossom at the Rorters much like Fitzgibbon.

If the Rorters have such a hard on for him, make a deal with them for next season; Swap Merrin for FPN plus compensation.

Then we need to sign Costigan and Packer. Soon we will be saying, Merrin who? Watch JDB thrive at lock.
