If Cleary does go. We will have $1m+ to go after another half hardly a terrible thing. Sure keeping him is best
The 1 rep player who wants to stay looks like getting pushed out. Poor Sauce
I love Mansour. But as a winger he is more expendable than losing our halfback. We can build around Cleary and he should have ~10 years ahead of him. More possibly.
We cant lose him. Thats the last 7 years of Gus being here wasted.
We would have lost every singled spine player bought and/or developed. The only way to be regularly successful is to keep those players.

Lose the best young half in the game... its all good we'll have lots of money. Unless we can use his money to buy a player we can build longterm success around it is terrible. If Cleary does go. We will have $1m+ to go after another half hardly a terrible thing. Sure keeping him is best

It would mean we will be starting from scratch again with a brand new 6, 7 and 9 in the next 2 or 3 years. Which would mean we have built towards nothing. Cleary and Edwards need to be the guys we build around. Egan eventually. A high quality spine with around a decade together in them. That will deliver us a premiership eventually.

Gus shat all over his dad. I highly doubt matching other offers will be enoughHow do you stop him going to play with his dad?
We have the better roster.
He has all his friends here. Better options for rep jerseys
If the money matches and he goes. How do we stop it? That is my point
You throw overs at him to stay. This is a case where it can be justified. Tell him he can go down in history as the greatest Panthers player ever. Atleast as the one holding the most records. How do you stop him going to play with his dad?

Umina.... you have got to get over Phil Gould..... How did he shit on Ivan Cleary?.... He sacked him right?....... only 2 types of NRL coaches.... those that have been sacked....or those that are waiting to be sacked. Nathan has signed 2 contracts with Penrith since his dad got sacked.... so really that means nothing and anybody who aspires to be a coach knows that job security is nil.
Ivan's record here in taking the team to the finals was 25%
The bloke who took his job is currently sitting on 100%
If Griffin missed the finals the last 2 yrs he would be unemployed as well...... thats the job.
So you honestly believe the Cleary family have this massive grudge against the club? ..... Grow up.

so my point still stands. We'd have $1m plus for another half

Most games ever played. Most points scored etc. Hes in a unique pisition to be a record holder here.
Cleary is worth more to this club than any other player here. Between his age, position he plays and maturity he is the most important player at the club. These types of players dont come along very often. We cant lose him because Gus sacked his dad or because we paid overs to front rowers. We need to do whatever it takes.
We lose him and its terrible.
and the revolving door at Penrith keeps on spinning. We are deadset like a mid table EPL side.so my point still stands. We'd have $1m plus for another half
While true it's definitely not an ideal outcome.

I've said my opinion on this more than enough times so I'll shut up about it
Will Nathan want to play for the Tigers, who really have no chance of making the finals any time soon - No
Will he want to stay and build with his mates he has played with for years - I'd think so.
Will he want the massive money on offer from Penrith - I'd think so,
Will Ivan still be at the tigers in 2 years - Not if they are not winning. History shows that.
Will he want to remain in a squad he has help build to win, who hopefully have played finals in all 4 of his seasons - I'd think so.
Is Ivan doing his best by pushing the father son agenda, to drive Nathans price up - Yes.
If Nath was so dirty on the Panthers when his dad was punted, wouldn't he had gone to ANY of the other clubs that would have signed him up for the 20's and beyond - Yes.
