Trial V Warriors

At very least the trial did serve a purpose in showing some of the squad that just aren't making the grade so far and others that are good.

Concerns plenty, but also positives for some players. I suspect this will certainly have helped Maquire making some decisions. Lets face it, he has inherited squad not of his making and has given most now a fair chance. His selections now can be based to some degree on form displayed. Probably now only the injured players remain an unknown quantity.

I've said it before, but I would not be surprised to see Farah and / or Marshall retire before 30 June to allow progression- especially if their feeling their age on tired legs.

f**k me dead there are a few grade A crisis merchants in here.

I don't think we have won, or done well, in a trial game in a decade. Even in 10-11 when we were good, we sucked in trials.

We simply lacked intensity and execution today. The Warriors game is almost purely based on size and speed, whereas ours is based on combinations and skills which naturally takes longer to gel. The hatred on Benji and Robbie purely because of their age is laughable. Robbie did well today, and while Benji was poor, he looked markedly ahead of Reynolds. Reynolds lacks in talent but is an enthusiastic and exuberant player that is a perfect bench utility, just give him time.

Nofa and Liddle looked poor today, and we need to work on defense in the backs. However, death riding this team after one trial is laughably stupid and I hope they prove you all wrong come Round 1.

Early days and of course only a trial, but all the things I thought we had issues with like, speed, goal kicking and size were all areas that let us down again.

Two weeks time at LO you will see a much better effort, I just hope Madge picks the best 17 on form and not reputation

Unless we go on east german type training regime all we can do Is improve combinations and execution. We will still lack speed in the backs and size in the pack, especially now we don't have Musgrove.

I think our pack will match most sides , but the Warriors are giants across the park so we were always going to struggle.
My concern is the lack of speed out wide , we just lack a game breaker able to do something against the run of play to get points against a well drilled defensive team.

They took the field for the 3rd consecutive year's first trial with a headfull of new instructions and new structure....Warriors had last year's ...and the year before that coach. I remember back in '88 ...start of the season under newly arrived Wok...many i knew were lamenting that all Frank Stanton had built was being destroyed in front of their eyes
Early days....Madge has walked this track before

There ain’t no substitute for match fitness, proven once more. Hardly time to panic.

Garner outstanding hope he plays his entire career with us and goes onto bigger and better things.

I don’t get all the Reynolds hate. He didn’t even play 5 games all year last year, played behind a well beaten pack with McQueen lol gees he was not that bad guys. Just give him some time.

I know it's not a good personal trait to use another's misery to make yourself feel better . . . . but do yourselves a favour and go read the Panffers vs Parra trial thread on the Penrith forum.

I’m a huge fan of Madge.Hes a smart cookie with a spartan work ethic & he will eventually get this team going in the right direction. We just have to continue to b patient until he finds remedy’s for the obvious weaknesses in the roster he inherited.

Weve deadset got the perfect coach to steer the ship in the right direction. It may not happen rapidly but fans should b rest assured it will happen.Madge is exceptional.

We have a very boring team. By that i mean there is no X factor guns who threaten to break the line and set up tries. Its just catch and pass x 5 then nothing. Brooks still cant direct attack, our 5/8ths are slow and lacking in time to create and dont get me started on the last tackle options.

Our defence is still a shambles, our pack small and weak. I know its a trial but it is our only hitout before Manly and nothing looks different out there. Obviously the team will improve but enough to make the 8 is the question...I see no evidence yet.

Watched this and I thought Robbie was quite slow. Maybe it is just trial rust.

He looked like how Isaac Luke looked when he first signed with the Warriors.

Ryan Matterson looks good though rangy with ball skills. Mbye and Brooks should be attached to his hip all year.

Surely not! According to them they’ll be undefeated Premiers this year!

Edit..just had a glance, various beliefs that range from:

* refs fault (in a fcking trial)
* Cleary can’t coach attack
* it’s all cause Kikaus out
* New Jersey’s fault
* Playng shit on purpose so Parra won’t know what hit them come Round 1

Good laugh nonetheless

Agree Stryker.
I was wondering where our creativity was gonna come from. Then I watched the ISP game I recorded.
We have a 5/8 who controlled that game from start to finish. Even the kiwi commentators were in raptures over him. Well at least that's what I thought they said. Dunno what dialect of English they were speaking.
We have to give Gamble a fair crack at NRL this year.
The other teams looking for a playmaker will snap him up if we don't. For anybody that doesn't believe that . . . . think back to JAC.
Like Gamble, he did well in the ISP. Only had a few games in our NRL side before Melbourne committed to him. While we were wondering if he'd be up to the rigours of top grade, and if he was too light, and all that crap . . . Melbourne looked at him and said " Fkk he's fast ! we can teach him the rest . . . sign him now"
Benji ain't the answer. Reynolds aint the answer. Matterson or Mbye aint the answer.

It's a tough position to be in. I'm pretty sure that Benji isn't the answer. It looks like Reynolds isn't the answer. Maybe Mbye is the answer. I don't think Matterson is the answer.

My take is give someone other than Benji a chance.
