I think we've seen enough to know he's got it and is definitely worth persisting with. The fact he was re-signed by the club after Fitzy came on board shows he's part of the future plans.

He hasn't had the best start to the year but I think that's more to do with youthful exuberance coupled with not having a defined role rather than him not being able to play.

I think Trindall will be fine. It's early days and last thursdays game was not a great time to come on in the last bit of it (the game) ... was it only for about 15 minutes.

The Metcalf/Trindall comparison is an interesting one. Many fans were very enthused by Metcalf's performance against the Tigers last year as evidence of his higher ceiling than Trindall. Metcalf had an outstanding game.

Melcalf had 117 run metres, three tackle busts, a linebreak, a linebreak assist, a try assist and two tries.

By comparison Trindall had 23 run metres, one offload, four linebreak assists and four try assists and kicked 7 from 9.

Metcalf got most of the plaudits for the more spectacular running game but IMO Trindall was equally impressive in that game.

Both excellent performances from 2 very different players. Metcalf is an instinctive runner with explosive acceleration. Trindall a more traditional half back with pass, kick, close to the line running threat. Assessing the players comes down to what you value more - running threat or broader but less spectacular skill set.

In the next game against Brisbane, Trindall had 98 run metres, a try, a line break, a forced drop out and kicked 3 from 4 in a strong all round performance.

I’m not saying I don’t want Trindall to have a shot in the halves, if it comes up, even thought he hasn’t been that impressive so far. I just think Metcalf is the better impact/bench player by a long way. Who cares if he’s leaving, we want to win this year.

Seems like Trindall gets the nod at 14 cos he's a bit more robust and can handle the work in the middle if needed.. Tracey is more or less covering what Metcalf can cover, McInnes and Finucane can shuffle in the pack, but Trindall can play 7,6,9 and become part of the rotation at 13 if needed.. thought last year he is was very good in an average side with almost a third of the salary cap injured or dropped, well worth building up to NRL intensity and being next in line behind Moylan imo

We could keep MM another year.
We have Rivett who will be another year older ad well, who could push for spot in halves.
Tracey could go to 14, we have some centres to come through.
Or we go to market see who is around.
Fitz has this covered.
Trindall I think he tries to hard, needs to relax, he seem similar to when Kennedy came into firsts, he needed game time, Trindall doesn't get many minutes

Tricky has all the skills, he will be fine, long year will get starting minutes, is an 80 minute player.

But for now he has to wait and master the off the bench thing, has to learn to curb the nervous energy, steep learning curve for a bloke used to running the team. In Fitz I trust, when starting needs more games under the belt.

Be patient young Tricky, you will get back playing with your mates, Will K and Blayke B, quite simply they did not have million dollar players in front, both were meh at first, geez remember these days? You will get your chance young Trickster.

With Trindall not getting many minutes, I would like to see him backup and play for Jets on the weekend, more game time the better

he has the ability, he just needs to calm down and not keep over trying to impress the coach, all will be well.

I felt for Trindall on the weekend. I don't think he is an impact player who can shine from a bench position. He came on when the game was finished, in the context of Moylan and Hynes playing well, and he needed to impress. He is a very traditional half in that he needs to ease into a game rather than have a quick explosion in the game. This is what caused the errors.

Personally, I would have him in the Jets to show off what he can do - but I trust Fitz. I have no reason to question his approach and thinking so far.

I was of the opinion that the halves combo should have been Hynes and Trindall, with Moylan providing the spark, but Fitzy is clearly happy with Moyza…

If the club wanted Metcalf over Trindall they would have not signed Trindall at the end of last year and put their eggs into the Metcalf basket.

I agree Trindall is a curious benchie for mine. But there are probably lessons he is learning like when he gets on to not rush things that sorta thing. My issue with Tricky last year was he was trying to play 20s ball at times (such as kicking for himself on a 3rd or 4th). This is probably a way to not only give us spine coverage but dump a lot of experience on him without him playing big minutes. He is in FG every week, must prepare as if he will get time - he would be in all the spine meetings etc. Probably better than him going down to cup and beating up on part timers.

Fitz called him out last week as the future of our spine so there is faith in him.

Trindall has played with WK and BB in lowers that would help, he should be looking at them to see it takes a couple of years to really come good, with Fitzy there a good forward pack he will get a chance.
Moylan will get injured even if it's more resting him now and then.
Hynes is a chance for bench for NSW.
He just needs to take his chance

Trindall for mine just has never impressed me but I will take into account the limited minutes he's played.

In saying that, he's had a few opportunities and he seems to be more likely to fumble and have brain snaps than actually play well and control a game.

As a critic of Moylan, at this point, he is a better option and I think Metcalf is a more versatile and dynamic 14.

I know there are arguments because Metcalf is leaving but my stance is we are here to win and I just think Trindall isn't providing anything that warrants selection now or even last year or the trials etc.

I want him to come good but he needs to improve.
