who won that again ?

Series was already won... if anything the Windies had a weakness in dead tests - often you'll find the crap team wins the dead test - happened to your great Aussie teams under Waugh, happened in the recent Ashes

wow, a sensible reply without any name calling and no cheap shots, didn't think it was possible so deserves sensible comment

to an extent I agree with the dead rubber scenario and it was probabaly one of our lowest of low lights, we were crap

one thing that I noticed watching the Windies back then is that they were the most competitive and ruthless team I had ever seen, they would go absolutely apeshit celebrating the last wicket as if it were the first, it was also very difficult to get into that team, sooooo much depth, their second string attack would have also rolled us in a day and half

the lead up into the last test at the SCG was huge and the media really played up on the fact that the pitch would be a turner and it was a viscous turner, watching the windies bat on it they were like a fish out of water, wickets fell trying to hit us out of the park rather than playing cricket shots

we had a plan that worked and despite the windies, in articular Clive Lloyd saying spin was not an issue for them they looked all at sea.

I believe the pitch and our playing 2 spinners would have provided us with the same result if it were the first test as our plan seem to work pretty well

as for why they didn't have the same problem in the subcontinent, I have no explanation but they certainly had problems with our crappy spin attack on those 2 tours in the early to mid 80s

without checking the results, from memory they did not have to chase too many runs in the subcontinent as their bowlers performed on those pitches and they were not as doctored as the recent pitches when India played RSA.

You don't offer declarations, you make then or you don't, good on Holder for not making a mockery of a test if true. Although his team had already made mockery of two

I'd have had Brathwaite as MoM. Good innings when the test was live. Although Marsh showed how tough batting was  so perhaps Warner was right

Why would making a game of it be a mockery. I'd have lolled all week if they had forced a result to f**k all the people who took the draw in the betting markets.

Because Smith is an Aussie, beware of the troll.

I used to agree, test cricket being the purist form of the game.

However, in this day and age we need to evolve the game to keep it alive, captains need to do their part on the field to make it work as well.

A dead rubber, 3 days of rain, nothing doing. A declaration from both sides to setup a grand finale on the 5th day would have breathed some fresh air. If the WI lost , at least they would have gotten some respect for trying to go for the win. If they had won the game, then kudos to them. Imagine the confidence of some of their younger guys to experience a test win even though it would have been a unique way to win.

"you don't offer declarations" Is something Dinosaur Chappelli would say.

Maybe I am a dinosaur - but sorry, I don't like the idea, and it's not because it was the Aussies offering - really what they could have done was cancel day 5 and play an unofficial ODI or T20? Alternately, Smith could have forced the issue by declaring and seeing what the Windies did...

But I don't think the Windies could win no matter what the scenario, and quite frankly they didn't deserve to - as it

seriously ?

Are you saying we should cancel a day of official test match cricket to play a non official game of T/20 ?

test.match.cricket ?

i think you should right a book on it

Are there several books with errors already published? Gee that was quick. Which one do you have in mind in particular?

But why should I? I could. But what moral duty or obligation do I owe to correcting an author? I mean it cannot be that I should to do it for the money - because there would not be much in that particular book or article. So I ask again, why should I?

We're going round in circles.

I have seen far more inappropriate situations handled far better by interviewers that made for good entertainment by all.

I question whether Channel 10 has the right person in Mel, doing the job. I am not convinced her personality suits sideline entertainment.

Antilag, you live in New Zealand, yes? You wouldn't happen to spend a lot of time with sheep at all?

No. I do not. Further, if I wanted to spend time with sheep, I would move to Australia, where there are more than double NZ's sheep population.
