No, more than that - his average was 47 and SR 90 - scarcely believeable even today - wickets weren't as flat then, and bats not as big - he hit the ball as hard as I have ever seen (the likes of Guptill, Anderson, Cairns, and apparently M Marsh do too, but Cairns aside with quite different bats)

It's flat out scary to consider what Viv might do if he was playing ODI cricket now

you will eventually learn, like everyone else here, that worshiping stats will only cause you grief as they are not stats as distinct from raw data which is not properly analysed

and comparing stats from different eras is just ridiculous

other scary thing is considering the decks were not as flat, Viv never ever wore a helmet. This is despite their introduction in the 70s, and by the 80s everyone was wearing one

Said it made him uncomfortable wearing one and he could concentrate a lot better without one.

Was going to add Andre Russell and Chris Gayle to that list - Gayle's a good comparison - Richards similar I guess, but right handed and much much much better - hitting the ball equally hard with a toothpick on decks doing more with minimal protection...

Agreed, as i said earlier he's easily the best ODI player of all time let alone batsman. When you throw in his off spin and fielding which was as good as anyone in any position.
