Channel 9 staff are filled with intergrity and have the best interests of the game and its fans at heart. Why would they have given the rights to anyone else?

I look forward to their cutting edge coverage of the Craig Field incident on A current affair as they drag the game through the mud yet again in an effort to entertain the homeless failtards that are their audience.

A shitload of more money invested into grassfooty will do more for rugby league than anything hd or live games could dream of. If you were a true rugby league fan instead of sounding like a selfish and whinging television viewer, you would be celebrating the massive future rugby league has ahead of it. I know I am

El diablo supporting this = epic lol

Go get another handie off John grant you tosser

I'd like to know what clauses the commissioners had in their contracts with regards to financial incentives should a certain $ amount be reached for the new deal. I'd hazard a guess and say it was at least 200k+ per commissioner, hence their eagerness to put pen to paper.

Given the AFL scored $1.118b in cash with up to $153m of that being for online rights, a quick bit of arithmetic.

AFL - $965m cash for 9 games a week = $107.2m per game
NRL - $925m cash for 8 games a week = $115.6m per game

AFL - $965m cash for 990 games (5 seasons x 198 games) = $975k per game
NRL - $925m cash for 960 games (5 seasons x 192 games) = $964k per game

AFL - $965m cash for 990 games x 3 hours = $325k per television hour
NRL - $925m cash for 960 games x 2 hours = $482k per television hour

Of course none of that includes Origin or Four Nations (finals pretty much cancel each other out). So pull the NRL figures back say 10%. Still not too bad. And we haven't yet sold the NZ rights.

Foxtel and channel 9 appear to have acquired the rights for broadcast of their games to mobile and tablets. What exactly is the website property Matiske referred to?

Doesn't include Origin or Four Nations (which the AFL doesn't have), doesn't include a Foxtel channel which the AFL has, doesn't include all games live on Foxtel which the AFL has, doesn't include AFL chosen scheduling for the entire year that the AFL has.

NRL has got screwed over again (unless you are the Broncos, Eels, Roosters, Tigers, Dragons, or Bulldogs).

It's better than the old deal. But so what? Of course it is. Add in NZ and a few others things and the cash looks good.

But apart from the increase in dollars the only other good thing is the stand alone rep weekend, but even that does not yet include anything other than an ANzac Test and City/Country.

The rest of it sucks balls.

Nein get to screw us over for five more years, no live simulcast games on Fox, an even later grand final kickoff. Looks like they have done everything possible to get the magic $1billion but not much else.

Also doesn't include the NAB Cup (AFL pre-season) or the international rules (bahaha).

Sick the of the dick measuring going on though. Was an excellent result in terms of $'s. Much more than anyone would have expected pre-AFL deal. Yes, the FTA coverage isn't as good as everone had hoped, but if they invest the money wisely in the game, the game looks healthy in the logn run. I just hope the players don't get too greedy in what they are asking for in terms of increases to the salary cap (not that they don't deserve some sort of top up).

It would include NAB cup as the AFL Season is shorter in length but with the NAB Cup mirrors the NRL season (but the 'finals' of the NAB cup mean less games are played).

There is no guarantee that the extra money will go to grass roots - the clubs and players will want that money.

However, it DOES guarantee that the same clubs have better bargaining power with sponsors and attracting fans because they are on FTA 50-70% of the time, whilst others get less than 10% of theirs.

This deal is the old deal just with updated figures. The fans and most clubs get f**ked over again.
