TV rights thread part 4

Are Queenslanders that insecure that they can't watch a game of rugby league without one of their teams (ie the Broncos) playing? Growing up in Sydney, it was always the case that you watched games from any of the other clubs playing, and I hate some Sydney teams just as much as the non-Sydney teams.

To me, I would rather see two teams playing attractive football, regardless of where they are from!

Even though you're being sarcastic you're right. The huge influx of money will do much much more for the game than more live games or an equal distribution of FTA slots.

For my beloved Rugby League, the money will do wonders. That's what we should all be thankful for.

We got extra money last deal too... And the one before that...

I'm glad you think its great that the Broncos have better bargaining ability with sponsors than every other club due to the ARLC signing this deal which ensures our game is the hands of a TV broadcaster which consistently attempts to bring down the game.

As to the rest of Aus, the coverage of the three games on GEM is superior as it is in HD, and at the same times.

Ah, wasn't aware it was being shown on GEM now. It's been a long while since I've lived in Australia/had access to FTA TV. When last the stars aligned, it was still an issue of 'be up late' for the fringe states.

Any word on the World Cup?

Probably the only good thing about it.
But we still have this bullshit of the TV networks doing the scheduling and the Ponys getting a rails run.

I also find it intriguing that only a week and a half or so ago I'd heard suggestions that Nein were resigned to losing it.

Now we have to put up with another 5 years of this horseshit

I love the approach of "weve got more money and we should be thankful"
Its much like a rapist leaving a hundy behind after doing his dealings.
But hey, we have money to spend on stuff. YAY FOR US.

Just noticed that Fox have IPTV rights. I'm guessing that means they can show it over Foxtel on Xbox now. Which is great.

Someone mentioned the interstate games being on GEM thus in HD 'so its a better situation'...

Problem is that it's not filmed in HD, so you don't get the HD quality.

Can somebody shed some light on what the broadcast arrangements are for the Rugby League World Cup?

Is it deemed separate from the ARLC, therefore not covered by this broadcast deal?

Is it something that is negotiated by the IRLF?

It is filmed in HD.

One look at the replay on fox sports and its clear.

Which makes their decsion not to put it on GEM for everyone even more staggering.

Fox Sports has secured internet protocol TV (IPTV) rights for the five games it will broadcast ? both live and catch-up ? and has the rights to develop a tablet product, as it had for the Olympics. Those offerings will be available only to Foxtel subscribers who buy the Fox Sports package.

If you were buying the rights to something and were spending 80 mil a year, wouldn't you want a decent say in what happens?

The NRL should be deciding what games are played when, NOT the networks.
Make scheduling fair across the board.

The NRL bent over and took it up the a$$ with this "deal".

Decent say?

I think they got a lot more than decent. Pay less than the AFL got and have more rights... I think they got a pretty great deal for themselves.

Nine were bent over a hell of a lot more than the game was.

Stokes pushed Gyng to the limit.

Well I'd be asking questions of their HD quality, since I can watch fox on HD and it is an infinitely better picture than Channel nines coverage on GEM.

You just equated not getting to watch live football with getting raped.

This guy really likes his footy.

1 live game a week on free to air in 2012 is a f**king joke.

To have that for the next 5 years is disgraceful.

Or he could be alluding to the fact that for less money than the AFL we are getting a lot less in return and Channel nine effectively controlling our game for the next 5 years.

This is all to do with bit rates.

When you broadcast over cable/sattelite its much easier to send out a higher bit rate , which makes the broadcast a higher quality.

The actual production side of things is the same.

Compare nines GEM HD broadcast to a replay of a nine game on fox HD.
