Another BL team goes to Islington and gets a win. Looks like it's just Man U that will survive from the 'best league in the world'...

you have wrote off the champions of La Liga so quickly?

Well at least we know you rate that comp as the third best in Europe... ;-)

Yup, another BL team. Blackburn on the weekend, Bayern tonight.

No-one with any sense would write off Madrid. Big Sam continues with his delusion that fans of English teams want other English teams to win for the honour of the home league.

It's called a reverse jinx. Given my predictions of Barca and Bayern against Chelsea last year went horribly wrong I thought I'd get a third prediction wrong ;-)

And Jason, the last English team I'd want to win would be manure.

I was referring to Schalke and Bayern.

For the record, here's what I said would happen in December:
So it looks like no PL teams in the quarters. I predict all 3 BL teams, 2 La Liga teams, Porto, and Juve to make it with Valencia/PSG too close to call.

I still want and expect that to happen. But I thought I'd tip manure for the 2nd leg so as to jinx them given my awful tipping, and to mentally prepare myself should they actually get through.

I'd be perfectly happy if United were the only English team in the CL.
This is stupid for a number of reasons. Firstly, if your closest opponents are still in the CL that means they will be having more 2 game weeks which means there is a bigger chance they drop points in the league. For that alone you should normally be hoping for a deep run from the likes of City.

Secondly, the worse English teams do in the CL the more likely it is that they lose a spot. One day getting 4th might not be good enough to get in the CL. How will you feel if 10 years form now in the post Fergie era United comes 4th and doesn't play CL?

I think you should focus on your own trophyless mob finishing 4th, otherwise you'll have to join us on Thursday nights

If Liverpool isn't in it I couldn't give a shit if every English team gets knocked out of the group stage. If anything I dislike the premier league teams more so because they're all stronger rivals to Liverpool.
I don't hope a a team does well just cause they're English.

FFS. Not just because they're English, but because of the 2 important reasons I mentioned above. For those two reasons it would benefit Liverpool if the CL semi finals this year was Arsenal v Man U and Chelsea v City.

Wouldn't benefit us at all because those clubs would get more TV money (your TV revenue increases as you progress through the tournament) and thus have more to spend come the summer. As for the co-efficient argument, unless PSG/Juve/Inter/Milan win every UCL for the rest of the decade (and the PL clubs bomb out dramatically), England will have 3+1 spots.

So based on your arguments are you telling me you were supporting Chelsea in last year's final?

Yes but i don't know any Bayern fans.

So its better to be able to laugh at the few Arsenal fans i know. :D

When it comes to Liverpool or City i'd rather anyone win anything other than those two.

Everything you say may be true but stop trying to put logic onto something that is illogical. ;-)
