Decent Christians wouldn't care about the numbers I wouldn't think, your typical fundy nutter would though.

Yep, agree.

I would argue how conscious it really is if you've been subjected to it your whole life. I don't know their backgrounds, though.

I'm more interested in this, TBH. Is it genuine, or cultural? To me, true faith shouldn't be cultural. One might grow up in the church, but unless it is a conscious recognition that Jesus is Lord, then it is not going to save them

I get the impression a lot of it is cultural.

I blame the missionaries. It's not hard to convince the fairly uneducated of something while you give them food, water and build them stuff...

 Good bait, but you know it isn't like that. You're smart enough to know it isn't that ;-)

Yes, absolutely this. I never saw it until I moved to Auckland in '91. They would have prayer huddles before the game. Many would not play on a Sunday.
I played a school football game against a team from Campbelltown with 16/18 Pacific Islanders, they got my school to join them a prayer huddle after the game. It was strange but also a good way to wind down after a match with the opposition.

The highlight of my day thus far has been trolling Iran fans on the Asian Football Confederation Facebook page.

I wouldn't begrudge them their celebrations if they were remotely reasonable about them and aware of the flaws in their performance and the relative weakness of their opposition.

Instead, the entire page is "Yalla Iran" and "Iran r da best team in Asia and beat the best team in Africa".

Their responses to me questioning their inability to post points against a defensively weak Iran have ranged from "get out looser (sic)" to "FIFA says we are best" etc etc

So, now I'll be cheering for every Asian team in the World Cup except Iran.

Also, as much as a stretch the idea of a dude dying on a cross to save us from our sins is as a concept behind a religion, how the f**k can anybody believe Mormonism is anything but a massive scam?

A guy speaks to an angel and reads from a hat about a bullshit story that a bunch of Israelites ran to the US to escape persecution and when he's called on it, he 're-reads' the story but it's slightly different because he has to read it from slightly different plates (or, y'know, because it was never written down and he made it up).

But, y'know, magic underwear.

At face value, it is just as bad as Jesus and his gang of lovable misfits.

Now you're just being stubborn for the sake of it. There is historical proof that a figure names Jesus existed.

There is no proof that Israelites fled to North America, nor that aliens harvest our souls to feed into a volcano.

Honestly they're all the same to me as far as believability goes.

Still, Mormonism and Scientology are completely silly. Probably as crazy as the Christian fundies and young Earthers.
