Yep, oldschool wise. Acid's son is also an emerging hip hop artist, THATS YA FAMILY!
It's pretty amazing that you could probably consider NZ Hip-Hop to be in it's third wave right now, if you looked at it as:

1st Wave: Upper Hut Posse, OJ & Slave, Dam Native

2nd Wave: Che Fu, Kapisi, DLT

3rd Wave: Scribe, P-Money, Deceptikonz, Con Psy

obviously theres others amongst them though.

Been getting back into a bit of hip hop lately even though 90 percent of what i listen to is either hardcore or punk.

Some artists that i've been listening too are:

Delinquent Habits
Dilated Peoples
Shyne
and a bit of Onyx

DJ Raida

Dilated peoples are amazing- love thier work

onyx has some nice tracks- one of his tracks was stolen by ma$e on his new album actually

but
thats irrelevant because

i just copped Nas's new album- DAMN- some of the lyrics on this album, are amazing- flow is crazy

only buy this album if u really like nas because its the most non commercial rap album ever

which is what i love :D

Too right. Iv only heard a couple of tracks, I loved Diary Of Rakim, that was ill. I will eventually get this shizz, I love it when Nas keeps it real, kinda reminds me of Mos Def on Black On Both Sides.

I just copped the new Theodore Unit joint. Hot tracks wit Ghostface Killah are plenty.

Coming soon: Manurewa Marlins' Hip Hop Awards 2004.

Three Six Mafia
Lil Rob
Roscoe
Pharoahe Monch
Trick Daddy
Fugees
Mobb Deep
Cypress Hill (arent appreciated enough)
Jadakiss
Twista

Some of them may not be underground but I dont think they are as recognised as they should be. You could throw Rakim into that list as well.

The only hip hop I can tolerate is Aussie hip hop. Mainly because they aren't going on about how rich they are etc etc like all the American wankers do.

The Herd - 77% is one of the greatest songs ever.

^^Not all, but u are right, the majority of the MAINSTREAM do, just like commercialist OZ hip hop do.....Jay Wess....NZ wise....Fast Crew and Dei Hamo....

In my mind, if u wanna experiance hip hop, dont go to clubs, pop concerts or watch the top 40 music video charts. get on the net, and find out who is coming off, and who to check out

Red Dragon, you're right there, tho Mobb Deep have fallen off, and they are splitting up  3-6-Mafia are not that gopod, they are ok. Jada gets respect, hes on one of the biggest mainstream labels out there, so nah, he aint in need of much more. Twista gets enuf. Trick Daddy is in my mind....wack! but hey, every man to his own. The one I do agree with is Pharoahe, but he has signed to Eminem's label, and will be blowing up soon.

Ones that come to mind for me are:

Immortal Technique
Nas
KRS1
Canibus
Jedi Mind Tricks
Ghostface Killah, Inspektah Deck, Raekwon, U-God
Demigodz
Sage Francis

Couldn't agree more. Anyone who can incorporate a CityRail slogan from the 80's into a rap must have some talent!! 77% is brilliant too...

CC, what other Aussie rap are you into?? 2 Up, Downsyde, Koolism, TZU are all excellent.

At least Aussie crews rap in their own accent, unlike the blokes across the Tasman ;-)

LOL, Marlins, I knew you'd fire up at that!! I actually heard an interesting analogy from a NZ rapper as to why he doesn't rap with the "Choice Bro" accent: something about rapping in a Kiwi accent is like having a house party for mates where you're all in on the joke but in order for more people to get your message you've got to go to the people ie: rap in the US draaaawl...

I listen to Aussie hip-hop because I like the political & social commentary of The Herd, the light-hearted humour of 2 Up put to good beats. US Rap, besides Ugly Duckling - who are brilliant, with it's "guns & bitches" does nothing for me.

1200 were highly critical of "sell-outs" who don't rap in "Strine"...

Is J-Wess rap?? I thought it's more R'n'b?? In any case he is actually American...
