Talib's latest album is more radio friendly than his others. The Kanye beats I think got the attention he needed to sell a sh*t load of copies. IMO The best project was BLACKSTAR with Mos Def, my all time fav album.

Demigodz are just to ill. Celph Titled is a producer but has an amazing ability to spit lines which make u go WOAH everytime. Check "We Will Rap For Food" by The Cunning Linguists (Tone Def, Sanfoka, Kashal D, Celph Titled) to ill.

Also, I forgot Canibus. Even tho he is quite mainstream now, his best stuff was when he wasnt that well known eg. Lost Boyz feat. Redman and Canibus - "Beast From The East" dopeness.

There's plenty of good Aussie hip-hop. The Herd & 2Up spring to mind - there's more to hip-hop than guns & bitches...

Who do you guys like that are constantly ignored by the mainstream as they continue to keep hip hop real? Here are my favs:

Immortal Technique
Mos Def/Talib Kweli (altho are going pop as we speak)
Royce Da 5'9"
Jedi Mind Tricks
Demigodz
Pharoahe Monch (going mainstream - signed to Shady Records)
KRS One
Scram Jones
Executioners
Beatnuts

who do u guys like?

KRS is underground in that he does not get mainstream/MTV play. When was the last time you heard "The BRidge Is Over" or "U Dont Really Want It" on your local station, or on the video charts? Exactly. He is hip hop authority, but aint mainstream.

Haha, yeah Celph, Psycho Lees, Sadat X, Roc Raida a few more. They are good underground artists, I have a few Demigodz cds, and a few Beatnuts. Mareko's LP was awesome. My fav track: Big Dummies with Celph Titled, and Suburban Legend. Oh and City Line, because its close to home (I'm from Manurewa(South Auckland) and that is what Mareko is talking about in the song). 1.

bro, how could you forget Inspectah Deck's appearance on Mareko's album. I can't believe it was Scribe who blew up.

Well, I wouldn't call underground not being played on MTV or Radio station. I'd call underground having to order cds in. Guys who haven't broken through at all yet. KRS one is well established in the genre - a legend in fact. No way in hell would I call him underground. Same with Mos Def and Talib Kweli to an extent.

I'm a big fan of the above 3 however.

good point, i usually consider underground the type that most people have NEVER heard of, and you only hear on mixtape freestyles to start off with, before a decent release

another weve forgotten about is saigon, whos just scored a record deal (unfortunatly not with ill will :( :( :( ) kid is crazy

haha exactly. Mareko's my fav NZ emcee, but his music is not as radio friendly as Scribe's, and most POP music fans do not get the importance of metaphors and lyrical wordplay, which is why he didn't blow up as much as Scribe. Mareko has done things the hard way tho. He started with the battles and made his climb from there. Scribe sorta signed with P.Money immediately so yeh. But nah "White SUnday" is an awesome album. Also the Mareko & Savage mixtape "Blood On The BBQ" is good, features a collab between KRS1 and Mareko, very nice. 1.

Anyone heard Savage's solo effort yet? I figure it could be pretty special.

His first single has just come on the radio, called SWING!. It is definitely a club banger, and the video is hillarious, shows Savage with a massive afro, and Mareko with straight here, lookin like a pimp, like Snoop without the cornrows!!!!! The album "Moonshine" is due to be released early next year and will def be a huge hit.

Other Deceptikonz news, Alphrisk (last verse in Stop Drop and Roll) has released his album, "The Best Kept Secret" and despite being low publicised, is very good. Some excellent tracks, and features the mighty Mareko aswell.

The Deceptikonz tag partners, The Red Eye Society, better known as R.E.S hav released their self titled album, and is very good, with a hard street feel to it, featuring bangers like "Bad Muthaf*kkas". Very good album.

P.Money (Scribe's producer) has released his album, Magic City. It features a host of international acts such as Akon and Mystro. It also features local artists Scribe, PNC (From Breakin Wreckwordz) and Con Psy (Frontline). Def worth the purchase, as you also get the instrumentals as a bonus.

As for a Frontline release, I think 2005 will be the year for Con Psy to blow up. Deceptikonz have another collab album to put out, I think Scribe will have another, Breaking Wreckwordz, and plenty more underground acts.
