Most professional careers don't fall into those traditional categories of lawyer, doctor etc, when I was working as a journo they much preferred people with straight up arts degrees to those with journalism degrees.

Event management, lots of public service jobs, PR companies, they want people with degrees.

I didn't finish my arts degree because I wasn't interested in becoming a teach any more and because I wanted to get started on my Sports and Exercise science degree asap. I have a semester left and will probably finish it through distance later down the track. It was actually my former employers at News Limited who told me to choose an Arts degree.

It all makes sense now.

No wonder News is such a twat of a news organisation, they all have arts degrees.

---------

Seriously though, if you're going down the ESS or EP route there is no need for the Arts degree.

Lol, whatever dead shit. You're the one in here sprouting bullshit of BM proportions.

Seems like you might be trying to cover up your own insecurities about your lack of education or whatever.

Yes there a people who don't go to university and end up making more money than graduates, but it's not a norm. Fact is, this is the reality for very few high school drop outs. The research also shows, that arts students generally won't end up flipping burgers for a living. The opportunities for career progression and so on is much better with a degree. I know you generally have difficulties comprehending things related to facts and logic, but give it a try, who knows maybe you will eventually say something that's at least half intelligent.

Australian media in general is shit, but it doesn't change the fact that so many people want to get into the industry.

A majority of the front line journalists a good, smart and talented and have a conscious, but they don't run the show sadly.

I completely changed degrees, I just would finish it for the sake of finishing it.

Lol, did you read over that before you posted it? Surely you could not have possibly missed how pathetic that sounds.

As I've said a million times my goal in life isn't to make as much money as possible, doing what I love is far more important. I am not ashamed to admit that at the moment I just do freelance work and am living off my savings from when I was working full time. My parents don't give me any money or buy me anything and I pay them board, but you're right I am totally spoiled.

But you just keep profiling people and making up stories about your own life.

First semester, first year all done.

Seeing as I haven't really done any maths or science subjects since I was in year 10 (2004) I am pretty happy. There's a lot more physics in next semester though, so it will be a challenge, but I'm still psyched.

Arts is really only good for a bridging course or just to show an employer that you have a degree. It shows you can stick the course out and are not a complete dope. What you learn cannot really diectly be applied in employment in most circumstances. Not always the case though. Just my opinion.

2007 - completed HSC

2008 - commenced BA in Communications (Information & Media) / B Laws @ UTS

2009 - dropped B Laws

2010 - completed BA in Communications (Information & Media) @ UTS

2011 - commenced Juris Doctor @ USYD

At the end of my undergraduate degree, I was offered to do my BA in Communications (Honours) @ UTS, or an MA in Journalism @ UTS Graduate School of Journalism, however I turned these down. I felt that I had 'copped out' by dropping Law, and had some unfinished business to tend to.
