ME SO HORNBY!

Have about 4 days of uni left, 3 assignments or so, motivation all time low. Just need to finish this crap and i'll have a degree but struggling at present.

Been there.

So hard to keep motivated when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. But there is nothing like that feeling when you finish your last ever assignment.

We had minimum attendance requirements for MARK301 - Internet Marketing. 80% attendance or TF. I only went to 2 tutorials, and got 7/10 for participation...

I remember doing MARK301 with Robert Grant. Liked the guy and he had a lot of time for me but GOD his lectures were boring. It was a struggle at 8.30am on a Friday

But now I'm applying for an Online Comms job. Go figure. Something he did must have rubbed off.

What made it worse was that I lived on campus (Kooloobong), but that's what happens when you have a 9:30am tute on Tuesday the day after poker + $5 jugs at the UniBar!

Don't you have minimum attendance requirements for tutorials?

Not in B.Maths. In past years we've had assessments in them but not this year. This is the most Uni I've actually ever missed since I started, I usually attend almost every single lecture/tutorial.

Have occasionally had attendance checked in electives outside of B.Maths.

I remember one subject where I just bullshitted the tutor all semester. Showed up at the in class presentation where we had to pretend to be a country post world war 2 like massive nerds playing dnd. I picked the USSR and aced it because I just trolled the class and caused trouble just like they did IRL to stir up drama in the developing world. I miss uni so much..

Time flies, it's nearly exam time yet again. Lost all mojo for uni after the assignment and moot court assessments were done.. Tis going to be a long 3 or 4 last weeks of this semester.. The summer break can't come quick enough.

Ahh uni. So much learning, most of it forgotten. Does UNSW still hold exams in the top levels of the Randwick Racecourse grandstand? How on earth were we supposed to stay concentrated up there?

Grades are out, and I passed everything! I was really worried about 2 subjects but there must have been some significant scaling that helped me out.

Final semester: 66, 70, 70, 79, 90. 3 C's, a D and a HD. Better than expected :)

Nice work mate, getting my final round of results on Friday (hopefully it's my last). In terms of how difficult I found my exams this semester would rank as one of the easiest out of my 8 (4 year degree, haven't come close to failing a subject yet), yet the tension of the release is definitely the worst I've felt out of the 8. Who knows how I will be holding up come Friday morning while I wait for my results to be emailed to me.

I got to page 7 before I wanted to vomit. Sounds like Cliffy does not know how to deal with disappointment, or having enough base knowledge to deal with a question from left field. A University exam is meant to challenge you and apply your knowledge. Not vomit info verbatim.

Got about as far as I did Johnsy, those people at uni crack me up. In pretty much every exam I have done there has been something there beyond the coursework where you need to actually think rather than regurgitate for get the right answer. It is amazing how some people still get surprised by it. I may not have any actual work experience in my field, but my belief has always been those who regurgitate blocks of text and formulas will eventually get found out, those who actually understand concepts and the rational behind them will do well. I actually have to thank one of my tutors from a few years back who would get you to answer a question by pretending to be a client and got you to be a consultant. It was amazing how many people could not go with that dynamic.

Then again, people at uni come straight from high school where memorising essays and large blocks of text is not only effective, but encouraged.

Bingo MM, then they have the audacity to assume it's the examiners error.
Critical analysis was the biggest thing I gained from my degree.

With vocationally oriented degrees is often about regurgitating information, but then when you finish the degree a lot that information becomes outdated and you need to be retrained.

I studied philosophy and when the lecturer in charge was good, it honestly did not matter whether or not you read texts (having an idea of what was in them was more than enough), it mattered if you could actually philosophise and engage with a question or whatever, it helps to be able to say that some scholar said something and this is why they're wrong and this guy said this and this is why his thinking is limited ... etc. But I remember once in third year being really slack on this essay because I just didn't have time and I just wrote it all from the top of my head in about 20 minutes, half an hour tops. I did not reference a single thing and I concluded the essay by saying that the area of study was an extremely limited and bullshit area of study. Unfortunately there was a marking rubric with a referencing section, I got no marks for referencing, but I got full marks or close to full marks for everything else and finished with a distinction or high credit for the essay

My style for my last 4-5 semesters with exams was to see what the lecturer's background was and work from there. If they have a background of working in the area of the unit then they will ask you to problem solve and explain the concepts. If they have a background in research they will focus on some minor areas as well. In the first instance I would nail all the key concepts and have some understanding of the minor stuff, without paying too much attention to it. In the second one I would give everything a close to equal weighting.
