This is a sh*thouse if understandable step.
If all seems to have turned arseup from the time that the 'marketing coy' got involved and all updates to the AMNRL website ceased in favour of twitter, facebook & the other rugby flavoured website.
What a crying shame this all is!

Mr Nui, just recognise the USARL as a separate conference, help establish another one or two confernces in the west and or central areas over the next few years and get on with it! It will be a disgrace if the US is uncompetitive with Jamaica, Canada & South Africa when the WC play offs roll around.

Seconded.

If my understanding of the situation is correct David Niu sold the AMNRL to a media or marketing company of some sort for a fair amount of dosh and was then put on staff. I'm guessing that this company wanted to get in on the ground floor of an up and coming sport that was just starting to hit critical mass and, by adding its media and organisational abilities, leverage it into a much bigger entity than it previously was. The promise of this expanding competition is what they paid for.

And then half the teams promptly quit.

Considering some of the figures being thrown around the mass exodus of teams just after the competition was sold has pretty much destroyed the value, not to mention the sporting critical mass, that the company actually paid for. This must be incredibly embarrasssing to everyone involved, especially Niu, turning their investment into... what exactly? Can it still be salvaged?

If Niu is employed by these people and the competition he sold them is now nothing like what he promised then there has to be some extreme pressure on him to try and salvage something- anything!- from this deal now that the comp has gone from a regional sport with expansion momentum to a small New York based tournament. Any and all means to leverage his position within the League community will have to be used on the odd chance that it will be able to get the AMNRL back to something worth salvaging, not to mention retain any and all focus on the teams that have remained loyal. He might not even want to do it but, because of the money involved, really doesn't have a choice. Management is like that when you have to answer to people. It justifies everything.

Or maybe the situation is very different...

Was the AMNRL Niu's to sell?

Yes Pom, David had the right to sell the AMNRL to the Star Group as it was his creation. I suspect though he did not mention to the new owners that he did not actually own the teams, with the possible exception of the Bulls.

This is really sad and American Rugby League will suffer in the long run. I wish the AMNRL the best, but things aren't looking too good right now.

Its has now been made public that to play for the Tomahawks against Ireland,Canada and in the WC qualifiers players must register with an AMNRL team or affiliated team.

http://www.wearerugby.com/news/articles/usa-tomahawks-eligibility

Looks like he is dangling a carrot to players who want to play for the country by saying if you go to another body you wont play for the USA.

BUT it also mentions "eligible foreign professionals" so he is contradicting his own criteria a little.

To give you some insight into player eligibility for the USA Tomahawks, it will be an obligation for all players to be registered with the AMNRL as a member of the league and/or affiliated with a club for the 2011 season. This player registration process is available to everyone.

Is the eligibility statement that bad? The USARL have said they are open to cooperation which should include with US rep games. The AMNRL say individual players can register with them to become eligible. It looks like the door is open, as long as the registration process and fee aren't unreasonable.

Nui is not doing the best job of making himself look good. I wonder how other national NRL figures will take him next time he tries to contact them...

Some embarrassing posts from Niu on twitter. It seems he's got his smug clique and is taking the whole thing as a personal attack. Congrats to the USARL boys for having the balls to split from this administration. They'll be the ones to come good in the end, Niu's childish way of working won't get him anywhere long term.

People need to work through these issues without getting personal if possible.

The last thing we need to see is the game tear itself apart.

Can players register for two different clubs? Might be a way around any problems if players register for both an AMNRL and a USRL team.

Sounds like the same line of BS the ARL used against Super League aligned players in 1995 around State of Origin and World Cup time. Hopefully this can be sorted out soon, I don't think the USA can handle a mini "Super League War". It will kill the game over there.

Has anyone had direct contact with Nui? Has he released a proper statement explaining his actions?

I maybe a bit biased but to me he is coming off more selfish than really caring for the game here.

One of the guys on the TRL forum contacted him via twitter and he totally refused to acknowledge the USARL claiming he'd never even heard of them.

Issues do not go away just because they are ignored. I'm sure David will come around sooner or later. I think his tactic of making players register with the AMNRL is going to backfire; eligible overseas players are not going to register with the AMNRL. Will they also be excluded from selection?

Very immature stuff from Niu and the AMNRL.

They won't be getting much sympathy. If they don't somehow reconcile soon, personally I'm hoping the USARL takes prominence.

No doubt Nui is responsible for where league is in the States today. He must have put in a lot of time and effort and for that he gets my thanks, but,the AMNRL has become too big for a one man show.It needs to be placed on a buisness like footing with decisions made through a committee answerable to all the clubs.Obviously the USARL has been formed with this in mind. I wish them well and I am sure they will succeed.

Guys, some people have got the wrong idea.
USARL players will be selected for the tomahawks, as long as a they register with the AMNRL. They do not have to play in the AMNRL, they don't have to play at all (i.e. hawaii based players) but they must sign an AMNRL registration form as the AMNRL is the RLIF sanctioned body.
Niu has not made this as clear as he could. He has been immature and smug. He has tried to completely ignore the fact there is more than one league in the USA. Who knows, there might be a group of dudes playing each weekend down their local park, in their own comp, who have not made it public. They have not called it a pro league. They are just playing for fun, like the AMNRL. Niu must not take it so personally. (Although, it is a lot easier for us all to say so, we're not the creators though).
So USARL players can play in the USARL, sign a rego form for the AMNRL (not register for a AMNRL team) and can then play for the AMNRL USA tomahawks.
Who knows, maybe foreign players such as mcgoldrick and newton would have to do the same thing. Makes sense.
Hope everyone understands a bit clearer now :)

Will give a nice boost to AMNRL numbers if they have to register. AMNRL will be dead in a year or two, USARL has realesed more statements in 2 months of existance than the AMNRL has in 2 years. RLIF will sort out the national teams, dont be surprised if you see a new giverning body for the USA and a new team to replace the T-Hawks.
