I wouldnt move Gagan one millimetre. Been a god send on the right for us. That try saver was all furggggging class. He just didnt let go and the team all ran to him afterwards.

Not the first time he's done something like that either, Vin.
I hadn't seen much of him in the lower grades but the more I see him in firsts, the more he impresses me.

True that, he is a brick wall in defence and stays out on his man.
the right side has really fixed its defensive issues. If the rumours about Carney coming back are true, then I would be giving him a whole off season of tackling practice!

Me and Flanno were cruising for chicks in the Datsun we got from his slush fund last night and talking footy and we thought we should hold off bringing Holmes into firsts just yet.

If we make the Grand final we don't want an inexperienced fullback.

Flanno was saying its a shame we let Matthew Wight go. Him and Ayshford could be anything together on the edges Flanno reckons.

I think he's right. Flanno's a very astute judge of footy. I'm always saying to him I love the way he identified Tyrone would never make a first grader as long as his arse pointed south.
The fact Pennies cant win without him means nothing flanno says.

He is thinking of putting Stapleton at number 1 next year.

I think its a great idea - shame we let him go.

I should tell Flanno. I think he is picking the side for round 1 sometime this week.

I agree that if Wright is definitely going, Holmes could get a run on a wing and Feki to centre.

But much as I've cursed Wright through the year, with a finally functioning backline and not a lot of experience in the backs, we really should try to re sign Wright to stay at centre with Gagan outside him.

We so rarely have had a decent 4 or 5 games in a row from the backs, that now they are firing I can't see why we wouldn't want to keep them the same for next year. They only need to go like they are, with Brown to go well at 5/8 and our forwards to not be decimated by injury, and we should do well. And I can't imagine the current 5 (maybe Gordon on a bit) would be using that much of our salary cap.

In that case (if we sensibly keep Wright) we should maybe try Holmes from the bench, but not drop any of the form players just to experiment.

Of course, even better would be sign a top centre (Matai anyone?), not worry about Wright, and blood Holmes this year so we have great depth for next year...

The only reason he is firing is because he's playing for a contract. When he gets it...he will slip back into his turdy ways. Wright is not our future he is the unsavory past.
Put Holmes on the wing & let him swap with Gordon several times during a match. Let Gordon teach him as well as look out for him....I love the flash but he isnt our future either.

Smartest post in the thread. Bring him along RTS/Mini style. It's working well for the Roosters.

Would be great to see Holmes as fullback for attack and Gordon fullback for defence. Come of Shep, make it happen...

Shep seriously considering Holmes as a late inclusion.

Has begged for an NRL chance, and his performances are backing it up, even in a losing squad.

Needs to happen. Give the kid a taste when there is nothing to lose and give him something to aim for in the off-season.

Are you high,?? f**k keeping wright, he isn't worth feeding.
Eloquent argument, but I'd ask "Who are the super star centres we can sign up/ bring through to replace a decent first grade centre?" (and Wright has been an abomination at wing, but this year and last has been a decent centre- and we don't get many of those).

If there are any, I'd love to have them. Wright can go the minute we get one.

But there aren't that many humans on earth who can at least be reasonable as NRL standard centres, and you don't just get rid of one for nothing.

Moving Feki to centre to try Holmes at wing (and then swapping him for Gordon RTS style) is fine as an experiment if we are desperate, there are injuries, or maybe for parts of a game, but it also involves two or three positional changes in a currently performing back line, and we know through painful experience that very few (I'd say a lot less than half) the positional experiments tried by any club, especially us, seem to work.

So I repeat, why get rid of Wright HOPING that Feki will turn out to be a good centre AND Holmes will turn out to be a good winger? Seems a lot of risk in that.

Keep Wright, bring Holmes in on the bench to try some first grade OR buy a proven centre and get rid of Wright. You can't just get rid of first graders because they aren't stars, hoping that someone else will be a star, that is just crazy gambling.
