Valentine Holmes NFL career

These players need to get some better advice. This little adventure will cost him millions in lost earnings and who knows how he’ll come back. Look at Hayne and what a disaster it ended up being for his career.
I have respect for these players. They know what they’re risking but they don’t want to retire wondering.

Val has done it at a young age. He’ll be fine

Valentine Holmes was not even a standout NRL player. If you can't make it to the very top of a code in a country of 25 million (by that I mean being a Dally M medal caliber player) you ain't going to be anywhere near good enough in a country of 350 million. They have college rejects who would destroy any Australian (under NFL rules, where fitness does not matter and it is all about explosive strength and speed).

You look at someone like Saquon Barkley, this is Billy Slater if Billy Slater was in Jason Taumalolo's body.

There is just nowhere to break into that level other than the kicker position because American football athletes are far too specialized. Whatever position you want to play, if you're only making rhe switch in your 20s, there will be 100 blokes better than you.

Im curious to see how he looks when he comes back. It's a different body type, and a different sort of athlete that plays in the NFL. Hayne was never the same. But he was a bit older, and there was other mitigating factors around the end of him... It'll be really interesting to see how Holmes looks when/if he comes back

Holmes, one of four players in this year’s NFL International Player Pathway Program, had eight receptions for 85 yards in preseason action. The former Australian National Rugby League player will be the 11th member on the Jets’ practice squad and will be ineligible to be activated during the 2019 season.

Holmes will have to be satisfied with just training and further learning the game this season. Of course he will get paid for it.

If he didn’t go over there expecting this outcome for his first season, he was deluded, as are the fans over here who think this represents some sort of epic failure.

If he’s serious, he’ll stick it out, learn more and try again next year.

I would like to think he will give himself until this time next season.

Is this the same Valentine Holmes who scored 17 tries in 13 games for Australia? Or the one who scored 8 in 5 origin games?

Remember that Hayne pic with his new San Fransico teammates? Them NFL backs are seriously cut!

Holmes is living a dream. It seems there is a few here who have never followed a dream. Which is their loss.

When you’ve only got a ten year career span and that dream is costing you $600k a year it is a very risky dream to follow.

But dreams are not always about money. If they were, then this would be a pretty sad world we live in.

They rarely are, but when the dream is over and the cold hard daybreak of reality hits then little things like $millions lost hit home.
