Victorian Born Storm Players

Plenty of talk of when we will see any Victorian born players wearing Storm colours.

Well, I have just come back from the Carbine Club Grand Final Lunch held in Sydney. David Morrow was interviewing Marcus Bai and Dean Lance, and the latter was asked about that point.

Dean said that the Storm would have 5 Victorian born players in the U/20 side next year, and that they hoped that they would kick onto the FG side as they developed their game.

Just thought that some on here would like to know.

I don't know anymore than that, as that was all that was mentioned about the topic.

I guess we just have to wait for when the squads are announced to get more colour.

they have been in sydney for 25 years and have very few local juniors

Jake Webster is about the only Vic born player to play for Melbourne

Marc Brentall son of Greg I think played league in Vic but has never played First Grade for Melbourne

other players I know that were born in Vic, Craig Polla Mounter, Luke Phillips, Peter Wallace.

This seems to be a suitable thread to replace my question.

I watched the u18's affiliated states trials in perth this year.

The halfback for the Victorian side was a guy with the surname of 'Widdup', he was the best player amongst the 4 teams, he was a star. He was also one of only two caucasians in the Vuctorian u18 side.

Does anyone know if he is born in Victoria and nurtured through the VRL ?

or just an NSW'er/QLD'er who moved down in recent years?

the point is they are making progress.

I dont think anyone was under the impression 10 years in that they would have several first graders from victoria.

kids usually start to decide what sport they will play when they are around 6 to 8 , so the ones that were that age in 98 are only 16 to 18 now.

the real acid test will be in another 10 years IMO.
